Because of you I am now officially OBSESSED WITH THEM!!!!!
Welcome brother, we've been expecting you. :)

But honestly, Pain has a song for everything.
And there are some neat references to pop culture and higher literature, if you look for them.

I know, like they talk about Hannibal (witch I just learned about in history) and other stuff
Remember that time with that thing when it ran to that place that was in that city and then exploded.  There was also that time when the other guy with that birth mark who killed that one but the other day when that thing happened to that person.

do you remember?
if you do kudos

Ok, I'm starting to see what constitutes for "hipster" bands...and it's not early 1940s Jazz - which by the way, is the only correct "hipster" era.

Following this brutal logic of "hipsters" only listening to underground/non-mainstream music (of which very few artists listed count) here's my pretentious list of bands:

Spraydog, Yo La Tengo, Guided By Voices, Roy Harper, Silver Jews, Cap'n Jazz, Dananananaykroyd, Nation Of Ulysses, Kind Of Like Spitting, Bish, My Morning Jacket, Sonic Youth, The Breeders, Sebadoh, Ride, Sigur Ros, The Inbreds, The Mountain Goats, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pilot To Gunner, McLusky, Refused, Saturday Looks Good To Me, Seasick Steve, Vex Red, Snowdogs, Rival Schools, Soulwax, The Soviettes, Epoxies, and Clutch.

There we go.

By 'Hipster bands' do you mean unpopular bands among the general public, or popular bands among hipsters?
I mean bands that arnt very well know or most people haven't heard of

If this is the case, my favorite hypster bands are:
Vampire Weekend, Thrice, This Beautiful Republic, River James, Mae.
Then there's:
Jordan Anderson (solo guy counts?), U2 (around my school anyways), Weezer (snuggies and all).

The term "Hipster" developed from the 1940s term "Hep Cat" which was an old Jazz term for someone who's cool. The word as it was has only been stolen recently to describe popular things by people to lazy to think up a new word.

Interestingly, the word "Hippy" has the same evolution...and means the same thing. So Hipsters are Hippies.

Okay, hipster and hippie definitely don't mean the same thing. :I
The fashions are completely different, the two groups have different mindsets, and jeez I could just go on about their differences forever.

Anyway, BANDS
What about Disappear Fear? Anyone heard of them?

Well, language evolves over time. For it to do so in less than the space of a century isn't really all that surprising, and not necessarily a bad thing. Laziness or "theft," maybe. Or maybe just an oversight. The word "nice" in English a couple hundred years ago was actually the equivalent of calling someone "retarded" today: though to be "retarded" -- by dictionary definition -- means to be restricted or restrained, held back, we use it as colloquial for "stupid." To be "nice" at one point in time meant to be simple-minded, stupid, brainless, but is now complimentary.
So "hipster" is just a very modern example of language evolving.
Either way, the etymology of hipster is interesting, and I'm glad you brought that up.
Meh.
