Anybody have a technique or hack/cheat to draw a decent looking hand.
(In a relaxed position, such as simply letting it dangle at their side)
If it's actually a hand, use your own as a model. That's what I did XD . Erm, but for an actual tip, add in small details other than just making the fingers sticks, it helps yourself stay confident
Thanx
I'll give it a try

Can anyone give me some references/tips on how to draw humans? I have trouble with the faces, expressions, different perspective, really it all just has to do with the face. My bodies aren’t great but I can somewhat draw them.

This is what I've been using for posing.

I should pay attention to this for faces myself:

Hair, eyes, and mouth can typically be exaggerated or put off a bit

For both sexes it's alright to exaggerate some features. Give guys a slightly bigger torso than girls, and for girls it's okay to make the hips/butt a bit wider than guys. Also just make things look more chiseled for guys and more curvy for girls has been the tips given to me by many people (yes it sounds sexist but it helps get things right as there are subtle differences)

I find that doing gesture can really help with posing^^ such as...

this
or simply

that!
Finding the movement within a pose can really help make it more dynamic.
With facial expression, I always practice by making a face as exaggerated as possible. It can always be more exaggerated.
A good way to find expressions to practice is one of these charts

and it's really fun to try to push the expression to match as best you can in your style.
Remeber, the face has dimensions! If you're going for a more cartoonish style, you might want to push and pull some of those dimensions for the sake of character design, but if you're going more realistic, remember that each feature on the face has a level, and all faces are different.
A good way to practice is actually by drawing profiles.

you could trace over an image like this a few times roughly

and then maybe one like this!
I find personally that it helps me to better understand the shape and position of each feature, as well as the diversity each can have.
Of course, I don't follow all of the "rules" on drawing humans, it's also fun to experiment with playing around with different aspects.
Hope this helps!

one of my favorite things to do is to practice drawing human poses and anatomy studies

then apply it to my anthro characters. it comes out really neat.

my references are more on the toony side but I hope you don't mind that

humans are a very unique species
we are all different one way or another
so if the body or face you draw doesn't look like the reference then that's okay! humans can have any body shape. its good to draw different body shapes so you don't lose interest in drawing the same thing over and over

Picture

It looks good! I like how smooth the lines are and the proportions are well done. Maybe you could challenge yourself with more species, different eye shapes, and fluffier cheeks? :3

Would anyone mind giving me some constructive criticism on my drawings? In particular, the one I drew of Farrell, since it’s the most recent, but feel free to take from anything I made.

The thing that pops out the most at me is the wrinkles in the clothes, they don't look right. I suggest looking up some tutorials, there are some pretty good ones. ^^ also the coloring seems a big messy, like the bass colors and shading is kinda meshed together. An example of this is the soft gray squiggly lines throughout the coat, which just don't seem like they need to be there. I'd also suggest using lighter soft colors for highlights and not just a white line, there are good tutorials for that too. Lastly the anatomy is decent but could be improved on, but yet again it's something we all learn as we get better at art and stuff. I suggest drawing from life to help with things like shape, form, and anatomy. ^^ and tutorials are the best! Keep up the good work!

I haven't finished any art since this one, but I'm working on something as of now

This looks really good! I can see the dimensions of the snout and the picture is pretty appealing. The first thing that stands out to me is where you cut off the artwork. It looks like it's right below the neck and it also feels blunt, not very cohesive or complete. I'd recommend trying to end it more around the bust or the bottom of the neck. For the eyes, I see that you used a different line width to ink the iris. It looks good, but I would also bring that into the rest of the character, because line variation can be very nice and interesting to look at. My last little critique is to bring the back of the head out a little more. Maybe by adding more fluff. It looks like it stops a bit too short and it also makes the character feel really 2D.

I hope this helps!

This is really helpful, thank you so much!

I'll try and work on my line size variation, I should probably look and see if I can find a good setting in my art app

@Toastie

The hair in the ears looks reaally weird and spikey and less like fur.  The snout on the bottom one looks a little weird, too.  I think you made it a stylistic choice, but the eyes are just too big.  Good work overall though!

Edit: I can't type

I think it looks fantastic!  Something about the jaw seems off though, maybe his face needs to go back a bit?  Also the eye on the left seems a tiny bit weird, but it might just be me
