Venetian Snares & Speedranch - Making Orange Things

I have never heard a more extreme album in my life, and it is regarded as one of the most "aurally challenging" but groundbreaking albums ever. It's like m1dy and John Cage doing a collaboration.

Rage Against The Machine - Rage Against The Machine
Simply because. X3

Bloom 06 - Crash Test 01/Crash Test 02
Both of these albums have some of the best lyrics I've ever heard.

Aphex Twin - Richard D. James Album
Probably started the madness known today as breakcore, and modern IDM music.

Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman
Absolutely beautiful, I'd call it one of the best electronic albums ever made.

Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Szuletett
I know I already mentioned him, but this album completely changed my view on music as I knew it. Nowhere near as extreme as Making Orange Things, but a very emotionally and lyrically powerful album (for the small amount of lyrics it does have).

Album(s) of the year
« Reply #50 on: December 20, 2011, 10:58:28 pm »
So what are some of the best albums that  came out this year for you ?

My top 5 would be

Battles - Gloss Drop
Radiohead - The  King of Limbs
Andrew Jackson Jihad - Knife Man
Mogwai - HWNDBYW
Tom Waits - Bad As Me

Also, any albums you guy's are looking forward to next year in 2012 ? I'm pretty stoked for the new Animal Collective album, other than that I'm hesitant about everything else rumored/confirmed to come out :P

Favorite Albums that came out this year...

A Dramatic Turn of Events by Dream Theater is absolutely amazing!

It Was a Dark and Stormy Night by Creature Feature is an album fully of darkly whimsical tunes.

Hmmm... That's all I can think of right now. I'll probably find more later.

Oh! The Blackened Halo by Circle of Silence. Just found them, and this is the album I listened to. Came out this year.

Good taste mate! For me it would have to be Jethro tull, aqualung, I got the vinyl and it's worth about $400, but it's not the most expensive I have (I'm addicted to records)

It's hard to say what my favorite albums are in general, so I'm going to go ahead and sort it by genres I frequent:
  • General Black Metal - "Voice of Steel" by Nokturnal Mortum (I honestly don't care about their national socialist/racist tendencies that they've had in the past, this album is awesome, and certainly shows that the band has matured).
  • Post Rock - "All Is Violent, All Is Bright" by God Is An Astronaut
  • Neofolk - "Destrunken" by Neun Welten
  • Folk "Metal" - "Storm" by Fejd (Note: This band, though classified as folk metal, really has mostly folk influences. The metal influences are mostly in the percussion, making the sound unique yet hard to classify).
  • "Blackgaze" - "Écailles de Lune" by Alcest
  • Progressive Metal - "Blue Record" by Baroness (the band is moreso progressive sludge to be specific)
  • Folk/Black Metal - "V: Hävitetty" by Moonsorrow
  • Atmospheric Black Metal - "Epoch" by Fen (the band is known for having post rock influences as well)
  • Post Metal/Sludge - "Wavering Radiant" by Isis

...I'm probably forgetting a ton, but that'll be good for now :D

Great Albums
« Reply #58 on: January 02, 2013, 08:24:50 am »
This is a thread for albums in which there isn't a single bad song or one you dislike. Obviously this will depend on your musical taste but some albums you're able to have just on repeat and enjoy the whole thing from start to finish.

The only one I can think of at this moment is:
Whatever People Say I Am That's What I'm Not - Arctic Monkeys (probably my favourite album of all time!)
...Snow

Feel free to message me :)
