T'was a joke - most of those bands are "metal" or a derirative thereof, wheras Blink 182, Sum 41, and Green Day are pop-punk bands.

I think what Roofus meant by that is other "genres" of metal like Thrash metal, for example.

Owl City is my favorite artist to listen to ever.  Their song If My Heart Was a House is my all time favorite of theirs.
Remember that smile, the one you wore with such beauty and grace?  Where has it gone?  What has happened to put you in this miserable, lonely place?  Smile for me, even it may be the last time I see.  A picture I will take not for myself, no. A picture for the entire world to embrace the happiness you once shared with me.  Just smile...

Well, I've always been a fan of Shinedown since the first time I heard them. Also:
Avenged Sevenfold
Seether
Dangerous New Machine
Disturbed
Stain'd
Drowning Pool
Rob Zombie
Linkin Park

And some old-timey jewels:
ACDC
Def Leppard
KISS
Panthera
Twisted Sister
Quiet Riot
Pink Floyd
Stevie Ray Vaughn
Motley Crue
ZZTop
Journey

there's a whole load more but I probably forgot them.
I return from the dead like Lazarus... just without the wrappings and rotting flesh. Not cool.

actually I think Iron Maiden and those band which were made around 1960-80 are grand paps. Honestly they play TOO LIGHT metal

if you listen guys like Heaven Shall Burn, Neaera, Blinded Colony, The Unguided, In Flames, Scar Summetry, Shadows Fall, Soilwork, SlipKnoT, Lamb Of God  etc they're 10x better metal

those metallica and so on are just....well I leave that out but you know...not my taste at least  8)

May I point out that metal=/=screaming with loud guitars playing the same riff.

You'll find bands like Slipknot, In Flames, Soilwork and Scar Summetry are pretty much Nu-Wave. The only reason LoG are heavier is cause they work on being heavier. Bands like Iron maiden, Diamondhead, Metallica, Anthrax etc, They don't work on being heavier.

actually, i agree. iron maiden and the other older metal bands dont have to work on being hard core. they are the so-called fathers of metal and i agree with that! although i do like slipknot and in flames, they have to work to be harder and you can tell in their music, while, lets say... metallica just has the more origional feel to them. am i making any sense to you? < _ _ >

actually no, Cus Ozzy is the father of metal ^__^

main reason why I stopped listening Iron Maiden and why I don't like metallica is because they're too light

Thinned down for space.

Metal is about the riffs. Iommi wrote the riffs, not Ozzy.  Not to say Ozzy didn't help with it lyrically, but it wouldn't be "metal" without Iommi.  One of the first bands to be overtly Satanic in lyrics was Black Widow.  Their singer also played flute.
The C.O.B. song in that list; it's a cover of The Ramones.
Iron Maiden started "galloping" riffs. Look at interviews with alomost all of the guitarists in the bands you listed, and they most likely would list Dave Murray & Adrian Smith(the guitarists in Iron Maiden) as influences.  The hard-edged sound that defines metal wouldn't be what it is witout bands like them.
I don't want to come off as sounding attacking, I'm honestly really sorry if I seem that way, just, you've gotta have some respect for the history of the genre you love.  And, Metallica, soft? The newer stuff, definitely, but give their first album, "Kill 'Em All" a spin. Absolutely great the whole way through.  They had it in them to be absolutely amazing at some point. Too bad it died around "Master Of Puppets."

Back on thread, I've always loved Death, Johnny Winter, Ablert King, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Kraftwerk, Manowar, and lately I've been really getting into Spor and Ghost.  Yea, death metal, blues, old-school metal, techno-pop, and d'n'b.
"You've got your stairs to Heaven, you may be right.  I only know in my world, I hate the light, I speed at night!"
