Why no ears?
« on: August 05, 2011, 09:21:04 pm »
I've noticed something recently: a lot of people wear tails, and even more wear collars, but there is a surprising (for me) lack of ears. To me it seems like they would be more prominent. Does anyone know why this is?

Tails are easy to hide, I guess. Ears sort of scream attention.
Tails are really subtle and all unless you're walking in front of someone. So it's not really that big of a deal? Or sth.

Ears are tougher to pull off. A collar snaps around the neck, and a tail hooks through your belt.
However, ears would require something more to hold them, be it a headband, elastic, or some other object.
After a while it may become uncomfortable, especailly due to the possible need for re-adjustment.

I'm an ears kid
used to wear 'em whenever there wasn't a uniform policy to force them off me
I had them on a big soft head-band which was easy to pull on and my hair was feral so it actually made it look better. Now I have short hair so it doesn't work as well, I have to have them on clips and there's a bit of effort getting them on and you have to adjust them throughout the day, so I don't wear them nearly as often.
So I'll agree with DAS, too much effort.
On a side note I'd never wear a tail without ears, I think it looks silly and incoherent. Collars I occasionally wear as a fashion accessory, not necessarily directly related to furdom.
Hopefully the above post made sense...

What about the hats and beanies with ears on them?

I wear a tails hat, from sonic, complete with eyes, ears, and even the fluff of hair inbetween, but mostly I just rock a collar

I find that usually, they're a bit too... loose for me. And well, as already said, harder to pull off. I've seen some people do it /really/ well, however, but typically it's those with spiked hair and such :p

I don't wear ears cuz the ones I have don't look good on me.  But if I had a good looking pair then I'd wear them.

(not sure what this site's policy on thread necroing is, so sorry if its not allowed >_<)

Just a bit of a related story. I wore my ears and tail to school sometimes (Halloween, spirit week), and people loved my ears and talked about how cute they were, etc. But once they saw I had a tail, too, they immediately became disgusted and decided I wasn't so cute anymore.
So kinda the opposite. And I still have no idea why that is.

(super thread necro on my part :V (hope it's okay))

Anyways; I think people see the ears and think it's cute and see the tail and think it's weird.  I don't know why.  But anyways; I personally dislike wearing ears somewhat as I'd rather wear my fedora (which looks a lot better on me than the pair of ears I have).  What I'd like to do is get a pair of ears that clip onto stuff and then clip them onto my hat (cuz there's that band on fedoras which you could put stuff on).

xD I KNEW there was a reason I clicked on this topic

But yeah, tails are easier. Plus they're ~in fashion~ now so they're easier to pull off.

ALSO, I'm probably showing my dorkiness by saying this, but tails feel nicer. I mean...you can feel the weight of a tail and feel it bounce while you walk and stuff. you don't get that same feeling with ears.

(Hey! I remember this thread!)

Personally, I think ears only look good when they're attached to a hat or a hoodie and the like. I don't know why, but plain old ears just sitting atop someones head just looks out of place to me. Tails kind of blend in easier. I don't know, I'm crazy, so don't listen to me.

P.S. Collars are even worn outside of the fandom (more often then tails and even ears anyways), so I could see how one might pull that off.

I think probably like people have said, they are harder to make look as good as some other accessories. Plus they are very prominent (not much of a problem if you're with a group or furmeet).

Every day at my school I see at least one girl wear ears and one of them even wore a fox tail (Never saw her again.. poor girl) I'd wear ears to school if I had the guts but everyone in my grade level are a bunch a brutes. I find it impossible to be myself there, that's probably why a lot of people don't wear ears in public.
