"Furry" - now a movie!
« on: September 02, 2011, 09:08:36 am »
So someone's made a movie about a fur falling in love with a non-fur...looks kinda interesting. People on UKFur are screaming that it's a covert attack though. Whadda you young gun's think?

Having dated people who aren't furries, I'm kinda...offended? Idk if that's the right word, but it's really not that big of a thing o_o I can't believe someone ACTUALLY made a movie about it.

That being said, as long as they don't portray furries in a bad light, I'm okay with it. Which it's hard to tell from that trailer if they do or not...his apartment looks a bit bad, though e_e But I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say, the last thing we need is more negative media attention

Heh, I saw this exact trailer several months ago but if I remember correctly it was a senior thesis project made by a student.
Whether it's an attack or not doesn't really matter to me, but it doesn't seem to be that interesting a short (comedy) film considering it's a conundrum I've heard of thousands of times. Apparently the student who made the film has had furry friends before, so it's not likely to be anything negative aside from exaggerations (i.e., screaming out your balcony "I'M FURRYYYYY!" X3) I do so love the derpy suits though.

I don't know... Its hard to tell at this point. It would seem as if the girl is overacting about it a bit too much, but aside from that, I cant tell.

looks interesting, but it's a little hard to tell what might become of this movie. I also thought the dud's girl over-reacted a little, but otherwise I'm thinking it might be a decent movie.

I'm just seeing negative things about this. People who don't know much about furries will think that all of us are like this guy. Especially, the guy in the blue and greenish stripped color jacket. People are going to think every detail about this movie is true about every Furry.

It may not be saying bad things about the Fandom but its placing negative things in peoples mind. Especially, the pan shot of the guy's home. (Why can't you just frame the artwork instead of taping it to your wall) :???:

Unless the ending does something fantastic my opinion will stay.

Wikifur seconds Hale's post entirely -- just a twenty minute senior project that the student decided to do because her roommate happened to be in the family. Not a big deal either way -- just a lighthearted little bit of romantic comedy or what-have-you.

The trailer made me laugh.
Meh.

Interestingly enough, I just asked about this in a Livejournal community about Furry Media.
I am hoping to find the full version, but according to the person who did it, as posted to Vimeo, there are complications with releasing it, due to it being an indie project supported by a film festival.

My best bet is the girl comes to terms with how highly she is over reacting and accepts the guy.

I'll place a counter bet on that. I want to say that the guy will realize that he is gone a little over the edge and the girl will help him over come his obsession.

I actually don't see anything really too negative about this supposed upcoming film.

Sure, everything about him has a different level of exaggeration, such as his "I'M FFUUURRRRRRYYYYYYY", but it's not like he has 57" porn prints on his wall or something. I'm pretty sure the person isn't going to show a scene of him doing anything that get's the most negative attention, so I don't see anything that I wouldn't expect. Pretty much every movie has to make the character a little outlandish, otherwise there would be no general interest in the movie.

If the movie is comprised of the guy waiting for the girl to get over it, it would really be boring right? He has to create a conflict that will probably range outside the fandom. Otherwise it will indeed, be a movie of him waiting for the girl to pick herself up and say "whatever", then go after the guy for unexplained reasons.

Anyway, I'm in a relationship with a non-furry, and I know that it might make my queerfriend (ze  prefers to call zem that. zey're gender neutral and all that jazz. You would call zem a boyfriend) a little confused, it doesn't make zem uncomfortable. In fact, zey love animals and zey're aspiring to be a professional animal trainer. With 9 birds - all rescued and all trained - I think zey will do well. Zey actually used to work for a local zoo as a volunteer, but zey're quitting to focus on school, but zey might go back for an internship when they get to be that age.

BUT ENOUGH ABOUT MY LIFE. I look forward to see where this movie goes, if it goes anywhere.

It doesn't really look that bad. It looks somewhat decent, if a little strange. They might have over exaggerated the Furry's behaviour. But I'm not really bothered about that. To be honest, I don't really care how people want interpret this sub-culture within the media.

I've got a feeling that
My best bet is the girl comes to terms with how highly she is over reacting and accepts the guy.

I've got a feeling - what with it being an indie movie - that it'll be more like the girl realises how fun being a furry is and gets her own fursuit, the film ending with them walking into the sunset wearing them.

But that's just me :D

Maybe not getting the suit, but seeing how this Lindsey stated about the fandom: "a nerdy yet fun-loving community of nice folks", after doing research to dispell myths, that there will be a positive outcome in the end.
