Knives, Swords, and Other Bladed Objects
« on: October 17, 2011, 01:01:35 am »
Since we seemed to have a side discussion on one of the other boards about it, this is the new place to discuss them.

If you have something with a blade, what is it for? Do you collect them? Have you an everyday use for them?

I personally have a small collection of knives, of various uses and age. Most of them have either been given to me, or bought cheap.

I had a few foils for fencing. I used to be quite good, as i took 3rd in a state competition. I dont fence anymore, sadly. It was fun to do!

I used to have a penknife until London Transport Police confiscated (stole) it for being an offensive weapon.

I own no real blades (except for various knives of different makes, sizes and such) but I do own:
1 longsword made completely out of packaging tape, 2 swords made out of wood and 1 club (not really a blade, but it does have pointy spikes. =3)

I've got a sword and a couple of knives and daggers, and a very large colection of wooden bladed, bludgeoning and spiked weapons that I've made. And a crossbow that I made but is still  lacking a trigger because I lost contact with the person who was lending me all the steel working stuff  :(

I have 2 Swiss Army knives, one that I received at the age of 6, the other one that I got for Scouts that has a couple inch blade. Aside from that, I don't have any others... Yet. :fox-:P:

I mainly own pocketknives, some fairly high-end Cases too, along with a KABAR  and a couple of machetes, a ninjato, and a leather katana. I am working on selling several at the local flea market.
I return from the dead like Lazarus... just without the wrappings and rotting flesh. Not cool.

My apartment is full of weapons, which is kinda funny since I'm a tree-hugging peace-loving hippy.  Off the top of my head, I have:

-A 4" slim/concealable lockblade, which is always in my pocket.  Even when I'm wearing girl-pants, which are usually too tight to have usable pockets.
-A Leatherman Wave (first generation), a gift from my dad in ~1998.  It lives in my purse, and is very useful to have around.  Especially the pliers.  Being a girl who's handy with tools is fun :-)
-About four assorted multi-blade pocket knives, which are sitting in a box in my storage room/workshop.
-A rather gothic-looking sheathed dagger, 5-6" long, double-edged blade.  It's actually a horrible knife, and kinda dumb looking, but it was an impulse purchase when I was 14 and I've never gotten around to doing anything with it.  Yes, I live in a state where a 14-year-old can buy a giant knife, no questions asked.  At least, you could at the time, I haven't tried lately because I'm now old enough to buy or do anything that's legal in the US.
-A 5" sheathed "survival knife".  Basically, a big hunting knife with a match holder in the handle.  I actually haven't seen it in a couple years, but presumably it's still in my workshop on a dusty shelf.
-A 3-foot katana.  It was one of those cheap pawn-shop swords that every n00b has, but it's ridiculously sharp, I used it to filet a road cone once :-P
-A 2-foot Army machete.  Probably the most practical tool on the list, I've used this while hiking and off-roading on a few occasions.  It's not the sturdiest or sharpest machete, but it does its job well, and if it breaks, I can go to the Army surplus store and get a few more for $5 each.

*giggles* I also have a rifle, but you have to find me first.  At the first sign of anything that can be called an "apocalypse", I'll be disappearing into the hundreds of thousands of acres of undeveloped wilderness next to my house :-P

I am severely lacking in the weapons department, but a lot of that comes from me being in college dorms and being in college(broke).

I do however have a few significant items.

2" Blade Pocket Knife with my name and graduation date on it. This thing has gotten more use than almost any other blade I've owned or used regularly.

17" Blade, Cold Steel Magnum Kukri Machete, with personally done blue cord wrapped handle. This thing is a beast and I loves it. Aptly named "Emile," cookie for reference.

-looking at-

11.5" Blade, Gurkha Service Kukri, and man am I excited for this thing.
....

If it's not obvious, I like curved blades, especially Kukri.

Ok then, interesting use of the sword. :P
I just have a few holes in the wall from chucking stuff at it.
