Grand Theft Auto V
« on: September 22, 2013, 03:56:49 pm »
I recently beat the GTA V story, and it only took me 25 or so hours. So here's a review on it. [{Some slight spoilers}]

Character Development: 8.5/10
I fairly enjoyed Rockstar's way of introducing the characters. After the first mission that you have to play, there's a cutscene with Michael talking to his therapist and you hear some form of a backstory. The first character you play as is Franklin, whom actually gets to meet Michael for a brief moment of time. Fast forwarding into the game, Franklin and Michael meet up and soon befriend each other, getting to know both Frank and Michael more. You get to meet/play as Trevor later on in the game (about 6 or so hours off the top of my head). In the first 10 minutes, you realize Trevor is more of a deranged sociopath then you thought he was in the first place, but that's why most people love him. Trevor eventually crosses paths with Michael after 10 years of mourning him (Michael supposedly dies in the prologue). You get a feel for all the characters, but I feel Rockstar could have done better with the development, but still a great job.

Vehicles & Vehicle Mechanics: 9/10
Rockstar nailed the mechanics for the vehicles in GTA 5, but with one or two flaws. Rockstar took a giant step up from the fourth's driving. Drifting, turning, handling, all of it, is better and much more fluent. They put a lot of thought into the designs of the vehicles, which you can also customize within the four Los Santos Customs shops, scattered around the map. Here are the couple flaws. Motorcycles are pretty sensitive, you need to play around with the actual sensitivity, and the motorcycles. It gets some getting use to. Planes and Helicopters are pretty interesting too. Unlike the ground vehicles, The character you're playing as depends on how shaky the plane/heli is (The ground vehicles are about the same, but not as drastically). That's really it though, you can get around them easily.

Guns & Gun Mechanics: 10/10
I love every bit of the guns and its mechanics in this game. I need to start somewhere, so it will begin at the guns themselves. There are multiple guns such as pistols, snipers, auto-rifles, SMGs, MGs, and melee weapons. There's a few guns in each category of weapons, so you're set on guns. Customization of the guns is pretty cool too. There are attachments such as flashlights, extended clips, and silencers. You can also change the gun camo like blue, orange, red, gold, and platinum. I, personally, put assisted aim on, because it's fluent. When you bring up you're weapon wheel, time slows down so you're less vulnerable. Just to clarify, one of the best gun mechanics in any GTA in my opinion.

Story: 10/10
I also loved every bit of the story. I really didn't want it to end, but it was a very good ending. There are it's fair share of plot twist, sad moments, funny bits, and references to previous GTA games. The plot and storyline is amazing in every way. It's long, but very intriguing, so you don't want to stop, you want to always see what's next. Definitely my favorite storyline in any Grand Theft Auto.

Total Score: 9.5/10
Fluent and breathtaking scenery if I may add. This game is perfect for people who love shooters, and good plots. There's so much to do. Now all there's left to do is wait for the multiplayer to come out. Hopefully I can play with some of you guys when it comes out October 1st.

Thanks. It's not super complete. Didn't really go over clothes customization, pastimes, and some other stuff, but still a brief review.

I only looked at the scores due to you saying there's some spoilers. I want this game but I'm going to wait until it comes out on PC, so there's even better graphics (and gameplay possibly).  :D

I bought GTA V the day it released, and beat the main story line in 4 days, and it was really amazing. I absolutely love how they changed the driving mechanics, instead of feeling like you're drive on air, and bringing back car customization. I've tried GTA Online, but you couldn't really play the first 3 days, for Rockstar needed to do some fixing. When the online started working, I really had a blast with friends.
