Run Lola Run

8/10

It was a great movie but it was in German, and subtitles are annoying so yeah. 8/10.

Just saw Wolf Children, a Japanese animated film about a single mother raising two kids after her husband (a werewolf) dies. My review is twofold.

First off, the story, the writing, was on point. Beautiful work, it was a joy to watch! Coupled with really good acting (at least the English voices), it really brought out a lot. Character development was not only there, but we'll done, which is good considering that's the point of the movie. Very insightful, very strong. Makes me want to call my mum and let her know she did fine. =)

On the other hand, I think the direction was lacking. The whole film seemed to fluctuate between beautiful smooth animation and cheap, budget animation, and it was really distracting. Also, a lot of the cuts in the picture and in the audio at certain points were distracting as well. I could tell they were meant to be there, I could tell they served some sort of "artistic" purpose, but simple fades and cuts would have sufficed. If it doesn't add to it, it takes away, and that was the case with the overall editing.

But dang that story though.

9/10 - It's no Studio Ghibli, but it's up there.

The Emperors New Groove 7/10
This was one of the few Walt Disney Animation Studio's movies that I hadn't seen and it was quite a disappointment. The plot was a basic overused childrens plot about two characters who don't like each other going on a journey and becoming friends. The animation was over simplified, especially in the background and didn't work with the more complex character designs. They're wasn't anything special to it and was very forgettable. This studio usually produces high quality films but this was not one of them. I could easily tell it was one of their 2000s works where the studio generally had poor quality

Spy 10/10
I've rated it so high not necessarily because it's a great movie but because it was supossed to be a stupid comedy and did a great job as such. I laughed the whole time, it was just funny. Usually when I watch comedies there's a few really good funny scenes than make me laugh and then I don't understand the rest of the jokes or find them too stupid or just not funny but this movie was the perfect type and level of humour for me. Would definitely watch again

Woodlawn 10/10
It's a heart warming Christian movie about one of Alabama's best (in my opinion) players, "touchdown" Tony Nathan
The only problem was that I had to watch it in a bunch of little intervals

So I've had a bit of a thing for European animation lately. I just watched Ernest & Celestine, a French film based off a series of children's books by Gabrielle Vincent.

Pros:
- It's really refreshing to see that traditional animation by twos isn't dead like people seem to say.
- It does a great job of portraying the world of the story.
- Watercolor animation. Never gets old.
- Captures the spirit of the old books perfectly.
- The movements, the screenplay, was all so fluid and just fun to watch.

Cons:
- None. Like, none. At all.

10/10

OH WAIT I FORGOT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING
- Nick Offerman's in it.

11/10. Go watch it. It's available as a DVD through Netflix, and on free instant video with Amazon Prime.
