Forbidden Ground: 9.5/10
Ok, so first of all this film was a low budget, independant studio production that I accidentally stumbled across on youtube - I still don't know how I got to it but I'm glad I did.
Despite the usual notoriously bad reputation for these low budget independants (*cough*Sharknado*cough*Birdemic*) this film really shows the best talent there is out there that amazingly hasn't been picked up on yet.
First of all, there's the acting - absolutely brilliant. Realistic, believable and effectively captures the attitudes of many soldiers in the trenches who went through similiar situations.
Second - Fantastic story. I suppose I am slightly biased as I prefer WW1 stories to any other war stories. The whole narrative on how war changed both the men fighting and the wives and relatives at home is strung out really well culminating in the final scene where the penny drops and the tears flow.
The only flaw I found was that the relationship between the three soldiers should have been developed further as the film went on as two of them were friends but the background was never delved into, which could have made the story even more effective than it already was.
Anyway, long "I-should-really-be-a-film-critic" style review over. You should watch this film, it's one of the best I've ever seen.
