Okay so I recently watched 'Wonder' with my parents and I'd probably give it a 8.5 out of 10, it wasn't really my type of movie but I still enjoyed it !

There were lots of heartwarming moments and the main character's facial disability actually progresses the story and make it seem very realistic (they did an amazing job with the makeup). I thought that the romance and 'friendship problems' surrounding the main character's sister and her friend was unnecessary , though.

Before that, I had watched 'Coco' and it's probably my favorite movie, I'd give it a 9.8/10. The animation is absolutely stunning, the songs were catchy, and the story was amazing. I personally enjoyed it much more than 'The Book Of Life', which is what everyone compares it to.

Darkest Hour (2017)
9.7/10
The movie was great. The only thing that I kind of dislike were the (admittedly very few) CG effects, they weren't bad, but they were noticeable.

A Perfect Murder
2/4
It’s a 90s remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s “Dial M for Murder”. Don’t bother, watch the original instead.

"17 Again" was on at work for some reason...

2.5/10, it;s really hard to follow and all-around just plain weird and unfun, certain scenes made me uncomfortable, and while it had funny moments, it just feels like one of those dumb movies meant to just be funny, but it fails at that with the uncomfortable scenes...

Wonder
8.6/10
It was a really sweet film! It had a very relatable story to me and I liked the message it gives. The only
problem is that sometimes it changed the story at the most random parts like, it'd be one character's side of the story but it would show a separate characters'
story as well and it got confusing.
But other than that, it was a really nice "feel good" movie!

Annihilation
3.5/4

Really good sci-fi thriller that keeps you guessing and thinking. Also definitely an allegory. Not quite as good as Ex Machina (the writer/director’s previous film) but still really good

City Slickers

Basic 90s comedy movie. Funny, but nothing special

Affliction
3/4

About a cop tramautized by his abuse-filled childhood becomes obsessed with a murder and lets it negatively affect his family.

Pretty good, only problems are that I didn’t like the use of narration and there were times that it couldn’t decide if it wanted to be a murder mystery noir or a family drama. Other than that, pretty good.

The Babadook
8/10
I don't watch much horror stuff, but I thought it was good! It was creepy, but not in a constant-jumpscare way, which was nice. It was also a cool allegory for living with trauma, how others react to it, and how you can't let it affect the way you see other people. I would recommend, but not if you don't like horror or gore elements.

Black Panther - 7/10
It was a good movie, but it didn't stand out from other super hero movies in the way that I thought it would and it seemed way overhyped. Most of the CGI was great (the CGI sand stuff looked amazing), but a couple of the scenes with green screen didn't look quite right. The story was confusing, and required more attention to understand than I thought it would, leading me to not know what was happening throughout most of the movie.

I understand where you could be coming from about the complicated plot, though that was something I really enjoyed. I'd give it a 9/10 bc the first 1/3 of it didn't even have the main villain/plot arch but other than that I LOVED the characters, setting, and story. i definitely cried at the end too.

Movie about a hitman who attempts to quit. It’s actually better than it sounds. Most of the Movie seems kinda average until the climax where it suddenly gets SUPER INTENSE

The Informant! (2009)
2.5/4

True story about a man who begins working with the FBI on exposing his company’s illegal activities. It’s directed by Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s 11) and stylized like Goodfellas. It’s pretty funny and entertaining. The story can get confusing, however, especially in the second half. There’s a lot of business terms you’ll probably have to Google while watching it, because the film neglects to explain any of them. Also, the style works sometimes, but can often come across as cheesy. Matt Damon was great in the lead, but everyone else was pretty forgettable.

Overall the film was fine.

I, Tonya (2017)
4/4

I actually have no idea how the Oscars missed this one. Because the story that this movie is based on is probably before your time, it’s basically about an Olympic ice skater Tonya Harding, who’s ex-husband and bodyguard hired someone to assault a rival in a competition (supposedly) without her knowledge. Anyway, the movie was really good, a very unconventional way of making a biopic. Margot Robbie and Allison Janney were both amazing, and for the most part it was self aware about how bizarre the situation was. The fourth wall breaking was also a nice touch.

The Hitcher (1986)
1.5/4

Road horror movie about a guy who is hunted by a psychopathic murderous hitchhiker. Ugh this movie was dark. It was a nice idea and all, but way too dark, to the point where it was neither enjoyable nor artistic. The actor who played the killer was good. There are other horror films with a heavy use of violence, but they often have lots of artistic integrity. This film was violent basically for shock value alone. Also, the protagonist was stupid af and we NEVER learn anything about him

We initially avoided it because it felt like a total copy of The Book of Life, but aside from that, it was a really wonderful and emotional movie! I would recommend it.
