What do you consider "real music?"
« on: April 14, 2014, 03:14:28 pm »
Even though I prefer music with real instruments (not too into electronic/poppy stuff), I say all music is real music regardless if it's made on a computer or it's made by smacking two rocks together. It's just different methods of making music.
I've left (again), probably for good but idk. If you wanna talk to me outside the forum, feel free to email me. Just tell me who you are in the email pls

Exactly. I used to think that anything made on a computer was soulless. Now I've come to the decision, "Hey music is music no matter what it's made with"

"music: an art form consisting of sequences of sounds in time, esp tones of definite pitch organized melodically, harmonically, rhythmically and according to tone colour"

That pretty much sums it up.

Mod culture...
anything between 1965 and 1990, but i do like other stuff, say... Some techno, but i do prefer rock/ pop-punk, but mp3 files cut off the human parts the little mistakes that make it an art.

Agreed. I like that range of music too, and I like some stuff in today's music too. Example, I LOVE Adele and Natasha Bedingfield. It's pop, but it's GOOD pop to me

All music is, well, music. Music is an Art, however, and for Art to be any good, it has to mean something to either the artist or audience, at least. If it doesn't mean anything, then it is just a sequence of meaningless sounds; while this is still music, it does not cover up for the fact that it is essentially nothing with out meaning. When making music, you have to care, because it is precious to you, and then you have to make your listener care just as much; the songs that do this are the best songs.

Music is simply an art form. Real music will convey an idea or abstraction. All music is technically real music.

I invite you to take a listen to this. I'm betting the majority of you will go "This is not real music". It is however. This is noise music. Merzbow's work is heavily influenced by Dadaist philosophy. Dadaism is a form of art that is there to offend and shock you. It forces you to think about what you are comprehending.

Oh, I think I remember you telling me about Merzbow's stuff before. That music's trippy but really neat :D

Music is a desire for creation.  Music itself, is a bunch of notes on paper, but making music.  That's a different thing.  When you make music, you are expressing a sound that really mirrors who you are.  When you make music, you are creating a desire and putting that desire into sound waves, and sharing it with the other people around you.

Music is an outlet for creativity, flow, passing, and love.
Still confused? Then perhaps this will enlighten you!
