bicycles vs skateboards
« on: July 17, 2014, 09:30:03 am »
So the holidays are here(yay to weird holidays) and I thought it'd be nice to learn something new. So I was thinking of a new way of "transport" any ideas? I know that bikes are "easy"(sarcasm) to learn and stuff but I'm not really the kind that balances well on a narrow surface area and a high centre of gravity. I've never tried skateboards but I thought it might be a good go because I'll still have my feet to the ground (close to the ground) And I seem to be "okay" with a scooter(the unmotorized one that you have to use your legs to push)

By the way. I'm not going to do any tricks because
1. They're for those who want to show off
2. I don't have anyone to show off to at the moment

Bikes are nice to ride and all, but I usually use my skateboard to get around because its easier to get to. My bike is on a wall hook so if i just wanna leave quick (which is most of the time) I just grab my skateboard

it all depends on the person. I am terrible with skateboards, but ok with bikes. I learned sometime when I was younger. but if your riding on the road, a bike is the way to go.

I would say go with the bike, definitely a more effective mode of transport.

Bike. You can go a lot faster than skateboard with the peddles. Oh and it has the benefit of actually having brakes if you start picking up speed down hill :fox-;):.

Bikes. Faster, and more exercise. Depends on what bike you ride of course :P Here's a shot of me full carbon baby (the white one, but the black one beside it is full carbon too) spent all my savings on it, but the feeling of riding at a cruising speed of 40-45 km/h and doing bursts of up to 55km/h on flats and up to 100 downhill is incredible, and it's hella good training as well! Still, respect to skateboards and their riders for all jumping and awesome tricks they can do :D

Bikes but I don't know why

My goodness - that's brilliant! How much would one of those lil' piggies cost?

If I had been thinking more clearly, might have voted 'bicycle' when my missus whispered in my earole "A recumbant bike would suit your lazy azz". Haha, true right now cos I'm laid up and unwell, so therefore such a bike would be laid back.

Only I forgot to add that bespoke Moulton would be Very Nice. Very British and undoubtedly, Very Expensive: http://www.moultonbicycles.co.uk/

Now, I'd deffo drool for one of those!  :)

bikes are a little bit safer and easier to learn, although i  felt  often when learning it, i can't even stand on a skateboard, though,
while doing tricks with a skatr board and you fail, then often you fail on a painfull way.

Bikes. I've never been able to learn how to skateboard (not to mention roller skate) properly.

I think it depends on the skateboard you use, but bikes are in general easier. I don't really like biking, so I'd use a longboard in Mexico which was pretty easy to learn. Skateboards are cooler 8) but bikes are more practical.

I used to bike a lot as a kid, but I don't enjoy it as much anymore. I prefer skateboards because they're a lot easier to travel with and I've seen some pretty cool tricks with them that I don't think would be possible with bicycles.
