Virtual Reality Rush!
« on: October 12, 2015, 05:35:55 pm »
How many of you guys are ready for the next biggest form of entertainment coming in a few months?
Do you have your rigs prepared for day 1 or are you planning on waiting a bit before investing?

I am a hair's width from putting together my PC build, everything at the recommended specs =3

I want to be ready, but my PC doesn't seem to be. :sad-fox:

I guess it would be best to wait it out a little, VR might not even kick off into a big consumer thing.

Although...If someone made a VR furry open world...

I firmly believe it's going to become mainstream, It won't happen right away, but I can see it becoming something really big in about 5 years. I just want to be an early adopter  :fox-:):
And yeah, someone is certainly going to make some kind of furry mmo for it.

OK, I'm going to take it upon myself to make this thread an ongoing news outlet for Virtual Reality. All sources are probably going to come from here: http://www.roadtovr.com/

Here is a short documentary on VR, it's currently at 4 parts(not sure if there are going to be more):

Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3EIpAcGWZA
Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMzuaxLORGM
Part 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjIwtTtHXzo
Part 4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hutXD8mReXw

Check it  :lol-fox:

This news saddens me considering I was planning on staying the PC VR route, it was a promising looking game too, perhaps the best consumer VR game seen to date. Well, at least in terms of graphical fidelity.

Here's some footage to show what I mean:

Not sure how similar it is to real archery, but it seems very fun none the less.

Yo! KronoFur again here.

This is a new Sixense demo video that has been revealed, I think it's a finished version of the shooting range demo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peXFQ4YE3Fw

For those who don't know, Sixense are a company that are creating their own tracking solution and hand controller, their technology power the Razor Hydra that was going about a while ago. Their new model has much improved since then.

Just going to put my input on VR....
Yes, It will probably become mainstream...
A lot of games have compatibility for it so it's definately worth it in my opinion.
Personally, I would use it on Euro Truck Simulator 2 rather than using a joystick to look around :fox-:):

Yeah, with it only picking up it's pace with development for consumers recently, they're still working out problems with movement in VR. I've seen developers use a teleporting system, which seems to work well. The best experiences at first will be cockpit/seated games like racing sims and space sims(Just bought Elite: Dangerous, woo!).

ETS2 would be epic with it, I never thought about that.

Here's some non game related VR news. A quote:

"Here’s a summary of other experiments into how VR can impact the implicit attitudes, behaviors, and brings up a lot of philosophical questions about the sense of self:"

I've been thinking about it ever since the update which allowed compatibility with VR came out... (which was about a year and a half ago)

I'm actually a bit scared of VR, mainly because of the prospect of becoming addicted to the thing and losing a desire to live real life. I'm going to try my best to stay away from it as much as possible.

VR and AR is definitely where the future of electronics and gaming is headed right now. Honestly, I cant wait for the shift. The next couple years is going to be so crazy for the industry. Hype is real.
Coaster element of the forever :p

Skyrush's stengel dive! The most intense element I have ever experienced that combines unbelievable laterals with thigh crushing airtime. Insane is an understatement.

I don't believe something that extreme will happen, at least with the technology at the current stage it's at. It's fine to sit back and wait until we know what the effects are of using VR for extended periods of time. But currently I'd say that you should enjoy it, with moderation if necessary.
