good pc cleaning software
« on: November 22, 2015, 02:11:00 pm »
My laptop has a lot of shady software and it won't let me get rid of it manually
Does anyone have any good PC cleaning software I can use?

It depends on the type of "shady software" you have:
AdwCleaner is one I highly recommend for adware and PUPs, it works pretty well.
Malwarebytes is also another useful one, it's an anti-malware software that runs only when you launch it and choose to scan - it doesn't affect your anti-virus software.
If you're looking for actual anti-virus software, I used to use Avast! Anti-virus which has a pretty decent boot time scan function. This means that it doesn't boot into Windows the next time you turn on your PC and scans your computer without anything tampering with it (such as rootkits). It can detect stuff you cannot detect whilst scanning in Windows.
You can also see if CCleaner picks it up. ^^

I can say that AdwCleaner will definitely attempt to get rid of most of it, it even goes right down into the registry. I've used it both on family laptops and friends' computers and it worked wonders. ^^ It doesn't need to be installed either I believe, so it can be quickly deleted with no mess left behind when you're finished with it.

It'll also detect rogue web browser extensions too, and clear them up. However if there is anything else, I believe browsers have a reset option that deletes all extensions and the like?

Along with malewarebytes, avast free antivirus does a good job of cleaning things up and it works very well at preventing stuff like that from downloading again once your pc is clean.

Malwarebytes
CC cleaner
Hitman pro
ADW cleaner

I personally use them all when doing virus removals at work, sometimes the only option is to reload though.

I tend to use both malwarebytes and ccleaner, but if you need to handle something particularly stubborn, boot from an ubuntu live usb (they're free and easy to make) and use "sudo -i nautilus" in the terminal to access an administrator file browser, and delete the files manually. sounds a lot more complicated than it is  :fox-:P:

CC Cleaner is nice Brouwer it can uninstall and defrag the hard drive all inside the program. And for the tool bars, that is spyware. It tracks what you search with it. There is a program that takes it out for you, I'll post it later.

Kinda relevant tip I learned the other day,

Never run more than 1 antivirus on your computer at a time. 2 or more will never do better than one could and it can actually hurt your pc.
