Rate your headphones!
« on: November 24, 2015, 07:00:42 pm »
So I'm sure everyone's broken their headphones, whether it be over ear, in ear, on ear. And I'm sure people have had times when they got lost trying to buy headphones. So I figured why not make a headphones review list, so people can look through them and see which ones are recommended or which ones to avoid!

I've had tons of pricey headphones in the past!

Here's how I suggest how you list your headphones!
Example, for me I'm say these headphones are bad!

Sony MDRV55/BR DJ-Style Headphones, Black/Red

Price is about 40 Something on Amazon.

Cons: Low Bass.
Meh quality.
The actually cable is not replaceable.
I seem to remember they squeaked.
The cushions aren't so comfy.
(I've gotten these headphones and sent them back in two days.)
No sound Cancellation like you can totally hear what's outside.

Suggested: Get The Hesh Skullcandy. If you're lucky, you can find them at a local TJ max/Marshalls and they might sell them for like 20-25$. (Or that's the price from my TJmax.

Skull Candy Hesh2

Price: 35 Dollars from TJMaxx. (Price went down to 25 at my local TJ max.)

Pros:
Soft good quality cushions.
Good quality sound.
Good bass.
Replaceable cord.
Has an okay sound cancellation, you can kind of hear what's going on outside, but their is some cancellation.
Personal favorite for the price!
Cons:
Can get a little warm after wearing them for a while.
Not collapsible.
The cups don't rotate so much.
No mic on cable.

Sony MDRBX920

Price: 100$? ish

Pros:
Best sound I've heard yet.
Strong bass
Good sound.
Collapsible
Mic on cable.
Seriously soft ear pieces. (Some people might find it annoying though, because the ear piece covers your whole ear rather than form a circle outside your ear.) (Mind you I've bought them used in good condition. So these are already old, so I'm guessing the ear pieces take a long time before they wear down and turn hard.)
You can't hear outside all that well, so good noise cancellation.
Collapsible.

Cons:
A bit large and has some weight.

I've got Hesh 2's. Yeah, they're pretty much like you say, but mine's got a mic on the cord. I guess you got a pair that didn't.  :? Sound real good when you listen to rap, R&B, and dubstep to me.

I've also tried Skullcandy Crushers (didn't own them, though). I've got to say... awesome bass! You can control the bass, and if you turn it up all the way, the headphones vibrate. Great pair, I've got to say!

I've tried these in the shop, they were awful. There was way too much bass that wasn't very controlled at all, and the other frequencies sounded even muddier than Beats by Dr. Dre headphones make them!

That's weird. Maybe there was something wrong with that pair, 'cause the ones I used sounded fine.  :???:

I have Panasonic RP-HTX7 Stereo Headphones.

For their price, $30, they are excellent quality! I have had them a very long time and they are still in very good condition. They also have a range of colors to choose from which is nice, but their appearance is not super fancy but it's not ugly either. They also do an excellent job of silencing outside noise!

The sound is clear, they're a reasonable price, and they have lasted me a long time. I recommend them!

Sony MDR-EX50 earphones (£12.99 when purchased).
I've been using these earphones for over a year or two now and for their price, the quality is incredible. They're small and are housed in a plastic shell, but don't let this throw you off.
The lower frequencies are pretty damn good on these, it's there and packs a punch, but doesn't stray too far and stays steady. Compared to earphones I've used in the past, these are the best for lower frequencies. This comes with a downfall though, as higher frequencies do not perform as well and the mids may sound a little dull at times. They do provide depth to songs, quite an astonishing amount, but there is little to no separation between instruments - it all feels mixed together somewhat.
For what they are, these earphones are incredible for their price and gives detailed, good sound that does not lack bass, or has too much bass unlike other earphones around this price point. Oh, and did I mention the silicon rubber earbuds also have a colour highlight for each pair? It's a really nice touch. They've kept me going for a while, and are my go-to earphones for when I need to favour portability.

Some details:
Ear coupling: intra-aural
Headphone frequency: 5 - 23000 Hz
Headphone sensitivity: 100 dB
Impedance: 16 O
Driver unit: 9 mm

Item weight: Approx 3g
Driver Unit: 9mm Neodymium
Sensitivity: 100dB/mW
High density acoustic resistor

This is not really a fancy review or anything, but for my purposes I have been buying the same brand of headphones for 3 years and they are very reliable.

all I know is that they are called iFrogz and I always find them at Walmart in the headphones aisle. They are cheap and last a year (as long as you are not mistreating them too badly) before one of the buds goes out. For around $10, it gives you adequate quality for watching videos.

I recommend them for people who just want a pair of headphones that does not cost a whole lot and will endure.

I have a set of Razer Kraken 7.1 that I got about two years ago, before they came out with chroma. I got them as a gift but they were originally $99.99

Pros : Immersive sound design
Long cord
Sound proof
Excellent Mic with mute button
Adjustable
Glowing green lights!

Cons : Pricey
Bad headaches if you only wear one ear at a time.
USB only. No sound jack.

For me, I think they're fantastic. They've still held up great over the two years I've had them.

Specs-
Driver Unit - 40mm neodymium magnets
Headphone Frequency Response - 20Hz-20KHz
Headphone Input Impedance - 32 ohm
Headphone Sensitivity - @ 1kHz: 112dB
Connector - Gold plated USB
Ear Coupling - Circumaural
Cord Length - 2m / 6.56 ft braided USB cable
Weight - 340g

For Christmas I'm also getting these, Nekomimi headset. So I'll have to review them when I get them!

I got me some Sony mdr-zx100's. I've had them for like 2 years.

Cost: 15$

Pros: Cheap
          Sounds ok

Cons: Cheap

Specs: Uhhh....Uhhh... They work.

Coaster element of the forever :p

Skyrush's stengel dive! The most intense element I have ever experienced that combines unbelievable laterals with thigh crushing airtime. Insane is an understatement.

I have Hyper X Cloud II. It's around $100 now but I was lucky and got it for around $80 on sale.

Pros:
Extremely durable seriously this thing is mostly metal and hard plastic not that thin cheap crap used on many headsets.
Removable Mic
Comfortable for larger heads (most headsets I have tried failed this part and make me get headaches in around 30 mins)

Cons:
Sound quality is not that good and the "7.1 surround sound" actually makes things sound worse in my opinion.
Mic is also not that good and the outer layer is already tearing but it has another layer underneath that is quite durable.
size adjustment is a bit loose and often ends up with one side being shorter than the other until you readjust it.
