Fun Workouts?
« on: January 19, 2016, 10:50:22 pm »
So lately I've been thinking of getting myself into shape more. I can walk up the stairs and be exhausted the next minute and with me going on T in the next little while, I'm going to need to start working out a little bit more.
I'm just curious to see if any of you guys have any favourite workouts that you like to do, even if it's not the generic 'workout' thing like jogging and such. For me, I enjoy swimming (even though it's a little hard for me right now), working on the treadmill, weight lifting, and even playing Just Dance when I get a chance.

What are your favourites?

A hard and heavy body weight workout is good for me. Crunches, Squats, Push-ups. Natural resistance and by extension that sort of high you get after beating that resistance is a good feeling. I can't recommend moving patients in a hospital around as that's kind of a career move rather than a choice. ANd one other thing I tend to do is move around while playing games, as if trying to channel my energy into my character or whatever it is I'm playing as. They all tend to help.

Relatively long runs (5-10 miles) are my favorite and distance running in general is the most efficient thing you can do in terms of calories burned. If you don't have much running experience, working your way up to longer distances and intensities (starting at maybe a half mile and adding a tenth on each day) rather than going all out will help maintain motivation and stretching afterwards will prevent soreness.

After college, I'm totally getting a cheap treadmill and putting it next to the couch so I can train for marathons or whatever and watch movies at the same time  :fox-:P:

yeas there are lots of unusual workouts on youtube I tried based on animals or other stuff lol many just varitions on  the normal push ups. Like some kinda bear crawl I think and then clapping while you push up.
you could try learning boxing as that is the easisest martial art to self teach others pretty hard best not to.

There are also exercises you can do in bed, no exactly ones the get you moving though obviously lool just slight stretching

Swimming is my most favorite form of exercise by far. I like the feeling of the water. Warm water is the best though. The best filter for swimming is sodium chloride. Salt isn't as tough on your body as chlorine is. It also doesn't burn which a great plus. I also like elipticals. It works the leg tendsnts heavilly and stimulates the running sensation. If you go fast enough, you feel as light as the wind in the air.

Sports! They are the best way to work out without even knowing. Find a sport that you love and you are sure to get in shape. Ever since I've started fencing I've been noticing that I've been losing weight, gaining muscle, and just feeling healthy!

Lifting weights! It's fun, especially inclined bench press and doing squats with weights. It causes my legs to be stiff and sore, but hey... a fun workout!

Oooh, fencing practice. Lunging, moving, and a whole lot of other practices.
It's tiring, especially when you are wearing fencing equipment.
Just be wary of heat strokes. They are not fun, trust me.
Stay hydrated. Never makin' that mistake again...

For me, good old-fashioned walking is perfect. I walk to work/school and back, up and down a hill both ways. Lots more fun when you pace yourself to music!

Though nobody I know plays it, there's a party game I love called Ninjas that's really good as well, involving freezing your pose (whatever it may be), then trying to attack other people's hands in quick direct movements on your turn. Good for the core.

Basically if the word "workout" or "sport" is attached to it, I lose interest. That's me though.

Cycling. So much fun and theres so many different ways you could go with it. From high intensity mountain biking to peaceful and strenuous road biking. Plus, it doubles as a transportation needs. Want to got to the movies? Bam, bike your way there. You should definitely give it a shot.
Coaster element of the forever :p

Skyrush's stengel dive! The most intense element I have ever experienced that combines unbelievable laterals with thigh crushing airtime. Insane is an understatement.

Skiing. I prefer cross-country skiing over skate skiing on already made tracks though it is fun on those too. You can really get a nice flow to it. I recommend trying it out if you have snow, though it can be hard if you haven't ever done it before.

I do a marathon every now and then. I get quite a few episodes in each marathon. Quite the workout. XD

(For real, though, I'm really lazy.)

EDIT: I dunno if this counts, but I really love going for walks. Not the most invigorating thing in the world, but it's really fun.

there are TONS of great workouts on darebee.com, but ill try to keep this short

There are themed workouts based off of movies, video games, tv shows, etc, as well as 30+day programs focused around roleplaying. Right now im in the middle of the Age of Pandora program, which is set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

in addition to the programs and individual workouts, there are helpful graphics and even a video library that shows you how to do each exercise, if you dont already know. there are also daily challenges; shorter workouts that can be used as a warm-up, or just to mix things up. they have many other resources, even meal plans and healthy recipes.

as an added bonus, the site was founded by a woman!  :lol-fox:

TL:DR darebee.com is an excellent website with fun programs and extensive resources

Theres always long periods of walking. If you've an hour or two or three to spare, grab a water bottle and start walking to no destination. You'll find you get the same excercise as having run a half-hour or so, but not feel as tired, just the same amount of pain.

I'll probably just repeat what others/you already said.
Depending on your current condition start light like the swimming you already do, if that's too dull for you maybe go for a guided climbing tour or (if you have the people do it with) do some classical Street sports, like hockey or football that really helps your condition. Added benefit you get quite a tan (or sunburn if you're unfortunate)
If you're more into shape try parouring, bouldering or go for any kind of martial arts.
If you don't know where to do those things, almost all of them are usually available in every bigger city/if not there's special forums just to meet up and do those things.
I'll build a better world someday

I like to go for walks with Pidge and I also horseback ride (which yes is an exercise if you're actually riding and not doing a trail ride or something). I want to start doing more though but I keep pushing it off
