The Pros and Cons of Having Fur
« on: January 31, 2016, 01:30:03 am »
If a thread about this has already been made, feel free to do your modding stuff... Mods.

OK, so I've already talked about tails, but let's talk about fur. What are the pros and cons if having fur?

I have three right here:
Pros
-warm and can be soft (depending if you follow your animals biology [e.g. polar bears don't have soft fur])
-conceals skin conditions ( acne, eczema etc.)

Cons
-fire is going to hurt and humiliate a little more.

Also, would you consider a resistance to balding as a pro? Like, do animals even bald in the first place? I guess they don't live long enough. Also, I should probably say that this unfortunately doesn't apply to scailies, as scales have their own obvious benefits.

Pros:
COLORS :D (you can dye all your fur what ever colors you want and can express your self)
No more clothes, this will be great in the summer (and it wont be weird)
Extra warmth
Solf
Cuddling would be a million times better
Every one would be adorable, and in my opinion a lot better looking xD

Cons:
Over heating
Sweat (we would get drenched, well some of us)
Grooming would be a night mare
Lice
Drying off would take longer

You should do one about ears next  :fox-;):

I don't think that not wearing clothes would be an option. Like, even with fur, we are still shaped like humans, and some may find it distasteful for one's behind to be nude. About sweat, if we had fur, we wouldn't necessarily sweat. Dogs for example expel heat through their mouths. Needless to say, there could be a possibility that heaving breathing could be a problem. Also, would you feel the softness of fur when cuddling, when you have fur as well? Maybe on your paw pads, but what about the rest of you?

Pros:
-Insulation and warmth
-Looks cool (at least on most species)
-Most people don't have to worry very much about shaving now  :fox-:P:
-More options for dye (if you're into that)
-If you had unusual fur (for example you're a silver fox or a king cheetah), people would likely compliment you on it if it looked cool.
-People probably wouldn't mind as much if you didn't wear clothes
-Since most unusually-colored animals are bred specifically for their fur in terrible conditions (like the white tiger), perhaps most bad breeding methods would cease because it would be considered "inhumane." After all, we're mostly talking about anthromorphic animals here, which would live in a human-like society which testing on anthros or using them like lab rats would likely be frowned upon.

Cons:
-Would be a pain to wash all of it
-Most people while being washed would probably smell like a wet dog
-Fleas and other parasites
-Balding in one area is more noticeable
-Overheating
-Some piercings may not show through fur as easily (if you have piercings)

Pros
Uhh,, fur is cute

Cons
ITS HOT! SO HOT (im already hot on a daily basis, so with fur id die)
The price of shampoo would be ridiculous
Despite what others have said, dying your fur would be such a pain. Especially if you want to dye your entire body. So much money.
Fleas. Dear gods, fleas.

Pro
- Cute, fluffy <3
- Depending on species soft to the touch
- You can dye it!
- Helps you stay warm during cold winter months

Con
- Depending on species your most likely gonna overheat during hot summer months, even with my headcannon of anthros having really short fur on their bodies(kinda like some dog breeds like pit bulls). I think that extra little bit of still will cause the wearer to be warmer than usual.
- Shedding
- Balding, as it'll probably be seen as gross.
- Fleas!
- Cost of cleansers and dye and, you probably have to take extra long showers to wash it all as well and due to needing lots of shampoos there's probably gonna way more cheap off brands that don't really clean you.
- Brushing, especially if you a fluffy species.
- Probably have to get trims often if your a fluffy species or ones who's fur continuously grows.

Lets just say, I'm happy having no fur :'D
