How do you stay inspired?
« on: February 13, 2016, 05:31:58 pm »
This is just kinda in general terms, but, what motivates you to keep doing what you're doing?  To keep working at your hobby or your goals or interests?

I get really stoked to do something and I wanna do it and I have all these creative ideas and plans in my head but I have no idea where to start and I feel like I don't have enough time to do all of it.

I really want to do something amazing and I know I can if I just keep working at it.  But what keeps the drive going for you for those of you who continue on towards your goals or with your hobby?  I seem to get sudden bursts/sparks of creativity and I want to keep it consistent.  I know there is such a thing as writers block, or artists block, which is fine, but I just feel like there isn't enough time in the world for me to do or make any progress with what I wanna do and then I get distracted by something else.

Your thoughts?

I usually try to think of the amazing feeling at the end of accomplishing something, like compliments or personal feelings of success and improvement!

I compare myself to fictional characters that I over-obsess over. For example "DOES BATMAN GIVE UP? NO. HE DOESNT LET THE JOKER WIN. EVER."

I have about 20 projects in the making at any given moment so no matter what I feel like doing I can work on something.

I know that it probably will be short lived, but some of my inspiration comes from my subconscience. Then from there, I just branch out.  I know it sounds weird, and I guess you can't really call it inspiration really as it is often about similar things. But sometimes, I get a spark, and it is ecstasy.

Music and YouTube videos :fox-:P: I also tend to work on multiple things at once so I can jump around from project to project when I get bored or frustrated by one. I find once I start getting bored/frustrated my creativity and motivation drains quicker

It's a great difficulty to stay inspired, yet be inspired. Inspiration is like a flame from a small spark. Each spark flickers, but not all of them ignite. Once the fire burns, you have to keep that flame burning and never stop feeding it or it will go out eventually. The way to stay inspired is simple in text, but difficult in reality. You have to constantly overcome opposition and look forward to the end. The end is always the reason we do something. When we know what's to come, we have a clear picture of the goal — what we set out to do. The way to stay inspired is by beginning with the end in mind. I know it sounds cliché and sugar-coated, but it's the truth. Without a clear objective, what is there to fight for? We fight for hope. Qui êtes-vous sans espoir?

There's two steps to this for me. Having the ideas, and writing them down.

I get most of my ideas by listening to music and imagining what the music video would look like. I think of what, if any story there is behind it, who's performing the song and why, etc. Boom, ideas. Same thing applies to different things. My ideas generally come because I'm imagining what the dormant senses are feeling. Reading a book? Imagine what things look and sound like. Music? Imagine what things look and feel like. Art? Imagine what it sounds/feels like. You get the idea. (buh duh tss)

The most important part though, is writing it down. Without this, nothing happens. Ever. If I imagine a music video, unless I scribble out a storyboard or something for it, it's gone in an hour. Keep a notepad, sketchbook, camera, voicememo box, whatever. Just make sure the ideas get recorded. I've noticed that if you do this enough to make a good habit of it (takes looooong time) then you kind of flesh out the ideas on your own almost subconsciously, because your ideas are what's driving you.

TL;DR To stay inspired, I shove ideas into my head (like it or not) and record them.

I read books from a handful of inspirational authors (Anne McCaffrey, Robert A. Heinlein, and Kathryn Lasky (writer of Guardians of Ga'hoole)).
Also, studying the worlds issues and listening to David Bowie's work from the 70s seems to help me.
