Misinterpretations of Song Lyrics
« on: February 14, 2016, 03:07:06 am »
Has there ever been a time when you listened to a song and thought you knew what a certain lyric was but it turned out to be something else?
*raises paw*
So go ahead and post your most embarrassing ones here!  :lol-fox:

For me, the worst is probably thinking that "slipping into darkness" was "slipping in the dog mess!"  :lol-fox:

lol'ing like never in my life

I usually understand song lyrics, but my mom thought "Hold me closer tiny dancer" was "Hold me closer Tony Danza".

''fuck! sonofabitch and a dwarf! I love chocolate bars!''
(yes, I know it's an easy target)

another is
''chains keep us together''
I heard as
''trains keep us together''

Anime songs are so easy to mishear. Like Attack on Titan for example. In the background all I hear is "PO-TA-TO PIZZA!"

In one song, I thought that "No fear shall we know" was "No fish are we now".

There's been several songs that I've completed misinterperated their lyrics. Some songs are really difficult to understand because there are many words that souns alike, and multiple could make sense in the context of the song. The problem is there's one of many that's actually correct. I've seen lyric sites, videos, and informative sites dispute over the lyrics of different songs. I've noticed that one songs lyrics are heavilly disputed. YouTube, Wikipedia, and Metro Lyrics all state different lyrics for the song. Lyrical confusion can also be found outside of modern music. In folk music, songs are passed down from generation to generation. After the constant progression of a song, it's bound to evolve and change. This means there can be several versions of one song.

You know that song from the Titanic movie? The insanely famous one that everyone knows? What I heard was "The hot dogs will go on..."

Well, there's the traditional "'Scuse me while I kiss the sky" a drug reference from Jimi Hendrix's Purple Haze misheard as "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy."

Adele. Chazing Pavements. "Or should just keep chasing pavements." misheard as "Or should just keep chasing penguins."

I can't say much else, without getting semi-sexually-explicit. The lyrics aren't bad but their mishearings are what are.

Used to happen all the time with Eminem music (one of my fav artists btw). At first, I thought he was homophobic (like a lot of people think) but after looking up lyrics to various songs it's obvious he's not. He even proved he wasn't by performing his song "Stan" with Elton John in the early 2000s. At the end he hugged Elton John and then turned around and flipped the crowd off with both hands. Classic Em.

Still though, he's an amazing artist. Definitely my favorite rapper.
