Oh man
Like 10ish years ago now probably, Deviantart had this virus (idk exact terms SORRY) going around. I don't remember much except it automatically redirected your browser to some porn site. Those were my baby internet days, so I knew nothing of virus programs/adblockers/whatever and all we had was whatever came on our computer. So of course, next time my parents used the internet they were directed to a porn site and I was in a lot of trouble e_e
That sounds bad. Actually, I've recently had issues with dA redirecting me to a certain virus site unexpectedly. Sometimes, when I'm just browsing deviations and I click on one, after a while it will randomly take me to a fake Adobe Flash site that immediately downloads a trojan to your computer. I have no idea why it happens. It isn't common, but it's happened at least twice to me. It's not something wrong with my computer, and I'm pretty sure it's not deviantart's fault because it's the official site and I never click on ads. I don't know, maybe it's fixed now, but I try not to stay on deviations too long because I don't wanna have to go through the whole process of removing a trojan from my computer again and again. e_e

Sorry, your story just kinda reminded me of it.
That used to happen to me a lot on deviantArt and Flight Rising, and to fix it I got adblock because i couldn't figure out what was causing it.
Aaaanyway, my brother once got something similar to the moneypak virus on his ipad. My parents got really pissed before i told them it was a virus.

If I don't reply to you or take a very long time to do so, don't take it personally! I'm bad with words and people and socializing, so, uh, I don't really talk much when I don't feel like I need to. I'm really sorry!

The only virus I've ever encountered was on my Packard Bell Legend 730 Supreme, I somehow got the brain virus on it, but thankfully one of my local computer stores fixed it and it still works today.

I used to get a crud load of adware, but that was way back a few years ago when I used Windows 7. Using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS right now and loving it!   :lol-fox:

Ugh. Mine was one I created by accident while building a program. It was a broken package installed by the software center for Ubuntu, (The OS  I run, not windows!)  and the software center would crash  every time  I opened it. Was really hard to remove. Deleted the package for good.

I once made a program that deletes System32 just for shits and giggles and place it on my desktop as i was about to put it on an external hard drive. With my level of stupidity, when i went to drag it into the hard drive, i accidentally double clicked it which lauched it. It deleted about 10 files by the time I closed the app and had to reinstall windows :/

I wouldn't consider that a virus, I'd say a "broken package" (like you said) or a bug.

Ughh. That must have been a pain. I had more than my fair shares of reinstalls of Ubuntu and Windows.

I once had the luck to somehow get an extermination virus on my computer. I have no idea how I even got it on there. I was just happily perusing Google looking for information for a school project and suddenly my whole computer had the computer equivalence of a seizure. It ended up wiping my entire hard drive including the operating system. I ended up having to scrap the computer because I couldn't redownload the operating system because it said my key for the operating system was already in use and it cost too much to buy a new operating system. That was my first computer: an Asus laptop with Windows XP. My mom actually felt bad for me though and gave me her windows 7 hp laptop, so at least I got something out of it.

I guess I'm kinda lucky that I've never accidentally infected my computer (though I have done it on purpose for fun a few times) but secretly I'm always kinda hoping one of my computers will get some strange virus just so I can play around with it

How exactly do you get satisfaction from screwing up your computer?

the worst one i've had actually literally happened, i kid you not, yesterday. it was on my phone tho, and since they haven't figured out how to infect phones (yet...) it only infected my google chrome app.
basically, it was that fbi thing that locks your device (in my case it locked the google chrome app) and accuses you of some gross illegal crime and says you need to pay them a 500 dollar fine for breaking the law or you'll be arrested in 24 hours. needless to say this practically gave me a heart attack, but it seemed fishy (i mean, if the fbi REALLY took issue with what you were doing, they wouldn't do that- they'd straight up break down ya door and come for you.)
so i googled it on my laptop and my suspicions were confirmed, it was indeed a scam. i got rid of it by deleting and reinstalling google chrome on my phone.
definitely not the worst in terms of like technical stuff. like it was easy to get rid of. but it was the worst in terms of how scary it was at first.
