Rom Hacking
« on: June 17, 2016, 10:46:59 am »
Just wanted to know how many people know about Rom Hacking, since I don't think it's too common, but who knows?

For those who don't know, Rom Hacking is when you take a game, and personalize it (like adding custom levels, sprites, music, etc.).

It is legal, as long as you BOUGHT THE GAME and DID'T PIRATE it. Most game makers don't mind Rom Hacking, since the people bought the game, and don't care what you do with it, as long as it's LEGALLY BOUGHT.

For those who know any good Rom Hacks, feel free to share!   :fox-:):

The only ROM hacking ive done is on Minecraft and GTAV. On minecraft, I went into the configuration file for my survival world and made the village spawn rate higher so when i went into the world, almost every part of the map i haven't explored was just a massive village. I also changed some of the CDs in the game to add my own music.

In GTA, I changed the interior of my house to a custom one i made and changed the music on the crappy radio stations to my own tracks as well.

Currently in the process of hacking Super Monkey Ball (GameCube), which I have owned and played since my childhood. I'm still stuck on converting implicit collision triangles to the weird format used in the .lz files of the game. The .gma and .tpl files (essentially model and texture files respectively), I can convert successfully from an .obj file, exported from Blender or SketchUp for example.
