How to Edit, Quote and Multi-Quote Posts- Tutorial
« on: June 23, 2016, 07:55:17 pm »
This is another tutorial, this time showing how to edit posts, quote posts and "multi-quote"

How to edit your posts

Know how to edit your posts is important as we don't allow double posting. If you make a post and realize you misspelled a word or want to add something you should edit your post instead of making a new one. For more information about our double posting policy, please see: http://www.furryteens.org/forum/index.php?topic=11099.0

Step 1: Find the post you want to edit
As member you may only edit your own posts and the post must less than 5 days old, after 5 days you loose the ability to edit your post. If your post is older than 5 days and you want your post edited for a concrete reason (such as removing personal info, your real name, contact info, photos of yourself etc), message a staff member with the link(s) of the posts you want edited and we'll edit them for you

Step 2: Click the modify button
The modify button is located on the top right hand side of your post (as long as it's less than 5 days old)

Step 3: Edit your post
When you click the modify button it will bring you to a text box that contains all the text, emoticons, links etc that you used in your original post. This text box works just like one you would use for a new post. You may add, change or remove anything you want here

Step 4: Click save
You must click save for the new edited version to show up. Once you click save it'll bring you back to the topic you were posting in and then you're done!

How to quote posts

Quoting is great for responding to other users posts or to agree with something another user has said but it must be used within reason. Large quote chains are NOT allowed as they put strain on our server, are spammy, make it hard for other users to scroll down the page, amongst other reasons. Plus if you really need to quote 20 other people you're probably off topic anyways, at which point you may make a new topic to continue the discussion

Step 1: Find the post you want to quote
You may quote anyone's post

Step 2: Click the quote button
The quote button is located on the top right hand side of every post

Step 3: Write your post
When you click the quote button it will bring you to a text box that contains some code, this code is what makes up those shaded quote boxes in user's posts. There will be a square bracket with "quote author=username + other code" and a square bracket with "/quote" written in it, between these two square brackets will be the post you are quoting. Do not post in either of these brackets or in the area when the post you are quoting is, doing so will mess up the formatting of the quote and your post. Post above or below the square brackets. Hew ever other than that the text box works just like one you would use for a new post so you can add text, emoticons, links, photos etc

Step 4: Click post
Once you've click the post your post and the quote box containing the post you quoted should show up. If the formatting is wrong click edit and make sure you typed your post in the correct space

How to quote multiple users in a single post (also know as "multi-quoting")

Due to our forum software there's no way to automatically quote multiple people in a single post using the quote button. However posting multiple times in a row to quote multiple people is not allowed as it is considered double posting. Instead you'll need to manually merge multiple quotes into a single post

Step 1: Find the posts you want to quote
They don't have to be quotes above/below each other for this to work, they can be any two posts

Step 2: Click the quote button on one of the posts
The quote button is located on the top right hand side of every post

Step 3: Copy the quote code
When you click the quote button it will bring you to a text box that contains some code, this code is what makes up those shaded quote boxes in user's posts. Make sure you ALL the code

Step 4: Find the second (or third etc) post you want to quote
You'll need to go back to the main topic for this, you can't do it from the text box you were in previously

Step 5: Click the quote button
The quote button is located on the top right hand side of every post

Step 6: Paste the code you copied in step 3
When you click the quote button it will once again bring you to a text box that contains some quote that constructs the quote. Paste the code you copied below this code (refer to step 3 of "How to quote" if you are unsure where to paste it)

When you're done pasting the second quote it should look like this. With two distinct sets of code

Step 7: Write your post
Make sure you're posting above or below the aquare brackets of each individual post. Refer to step 3 of "How to quote" for additional instructions

Step 8: Click post
Once you click the post button your post and the quote boxs containing the posts you quoted should show up. If the formatting is wrong click edit and make sure you typed your post in the correct space

Great tutorial, thanks!

I just wanted to add that for some people, for whatever reason, the Quote and Modify buttons don't seem to work properly.
If this is the case, then you can long-tap or right click the buttons and open them in a new tab, and they'll work just fine!
