Why did you become a furry?
« on: October 26, 2016, 02:31:15 am »
We all have our stories of how we became furries, but why we became furries is the question here. What got you interested in the fandom enough that you joined it? What importance does the fandom have to you that makes you stay?

I've been a fan of furry art for many years but never really became a furry myself, until recently that is  ^.^ . Mainly I wanted to meet new people with a common interest with me but I also found fascinating the idea of the fursona. The fact you could make your very own character with his/her backstory really intrigued me! So I went online and found this forum :p . Really my furry journey starts with this very forum. When I signed up it was the first time I called myself a furry.

I really liked the fursuits tbh. I have done a bit of mascotting before and really enjoyed it so it was cool to find a community that mixed cute animals with costume wearing. I however still don't have a fursuit, it's in my plans to get one (hopefully) soon

I've found the art appealing for as long as I can remember; I adore animals, so of course it sparked my attention. I think discovering all the incredible dancers really pushed me into it. While seeing people of all ages enjoying furries was nice, it was when I saw fantastic dancing in elaborate costumes that I realized that this was what I wanted to do with my spare time.

I joined mostly cause of the fursuits cause I've always loved dressing up especially as animals, I still love fursuits but not to crazy about them anymore as I'm not into the performance part like a lot of people are I just wanna look cool/cute/different and have a tail :3
I also joined cause I thought furries were like therians(before I heard about therians of coarse) at first so I used it as a way to be the "real" me, later on figured what therians were and separated it a bit. My fursona is still based off of my kintype though^^''
Now I stay mostly for the art/creativity, a bit for the fursuits, and cause I like pretending to be my sona XD

I've technically called my self a furry since I was 12 but only got into it 2 1/2 months ago, why? Idk I think I was bored enough to try and see about it, I originally wanted friends to talk to cos as you all know. I have no friends that live near me,  but I joined ft and loved it ever since, this fandom has been pretty good to me. Except a few things but I still love and adore this fandom

I became a furry, originally, out of curiosity. I actually wanted to learn about the fandom, so I decided to join the fandom. Eventually, I met people and I had a basic knowledge of what the fandom was and I decided to stay with it. My continuation with the fandom is hanging by a very thin thread though. I have very few friends in the fandom and majority of the people seem to want me gone, just like real life. I'm also getting rather disgusted at the increase of sexualization within the fandom. I don't agree with the direction the fandom is heaing nor do I agree with a lot of the beliefs of the fandom today.

Mostly because I was bored.

I liked anthropomorphic animals and furries already.

And then I learned about them more and now I'm a furry :lol-fox:

When I was younger, I would assign personalities and such to all my stuffed animals (of which I had too many to count), and I loved dressing up as animals. Actually, most of my Halloween costumes when I was younger were animals (dragon, dinosaur, horse, etc.). Speaking of Halloween, several years ago (I was maybe 9 or 10) I went trick-or-treating with a group of friends, and at one house the guy handing out candy was wearing a mask (I forget what animal it was) that had a moving mouth, and I remember wanting one so bad. I used to really like animal puppets too for some reason, so I'm sure that if I had known about fursuits then I would have wanted one. I also drew anthro animals before I had even heard of the fandom. I guess there's just a lot more artistic/creative freedom with animals than with humans. It makes it so much more fun to design and draw animal characters. Idk, it's just a fun little thing that I enjoy for some reason.

Honestly, the whole idea. Just thinking about animals that can walk and talk is the coolest thing to me. I would want to see this idea become real life, but, fur-suiting is as close as it gets. I just figured, I want this, so lets get as involved as possible. Plus, furries are the kindest people I know, a bit socially awkward, but who isnt?
Just like a burn will linger, she crept between my fingers, and to my body she has now become a new disease. A fog to cloud vision, more like an apparition. She made a mess and now abandoned me.

Because it's just something I grew up being without knowing it, it also just Amazing just being n the shoes of a version of me that is a anthropomorphic animal and is better than I in some aspects.
