Bug/insect collecting
« on: October 27, 2016, 03:16:23 pm »
A couple years ago I started collecting all the dead bugs I could possibly find after my dad gave me a huge moth. I had mostly butterflies, but I crushed all the bugs in my collection on accident. I've recently started collecting bugs again, and even catching them myself. I almost got a mantis one time, but felt bad for it and let it go lmao
Does anyone else here have an interest in insect collection?

My cat loves hunting bugs for me and bringing them back, she's super smart because she knows I collect them and keep them. I started with moths since they were easy to get, one day my cat came back with a huge ash moth that was just under the size of my palm. I guess you could say me and my cat both collect bugs X3

Even though I don't collect insects as a hobby, I do find bug-collecting interesting.
I happen to own a spinybacked orbweaver spider that I got from the Ye Olde Curiosity Shop a while ago.

Question, though. What would you say is your favorite bug in your collection, SugarLonghorn?

My favorite bug that I have is a very large cicada that I found. I've actually got two cicadas, but one is much smaller than the other and is missing part of its lower half.

I don't avidly collect but my dad would always give me any dead bugs he found...or at least the outer casing of some water bugs.

The only time I collected was for a biology project which resulted in my mom freaking out when she found a shelf of dead bugs in containers in her freezer :D

Since it's getting warmer I'm hoping to get a lot of bugs for my collection. Is anyone else interested in collecting them as it starts to warm up?

I used to collect Cicada shells as a child, but somehow I got really scared of the skins and stopped going outside due to the big tree in the backyard?

Very odd, but I don't know about bug collecting today-There's usually flies and mosquitoes over here around the summer, the Cicadas also come around often but I can't find them anymore like I used to

I got a beautiful sunset moth mount yesterday! I don't have any other bugs/insects at the moment, but they're really cool and I'd love to get more in the future.

Bugs freak me out, mostly, but I do collect the wings from dead butterflies. Only if they're already dead when I find them, though. I could never kill a poor, innocent butterfly myself and still be able to sleep at night, no matter how many spiders I've stepped on.

I have a tiger swallowtail wing I got a few years ago, which is what started my own wing collection.

In the first place, I had to do it for school. The dirty minded people. But now I made it an occasional hobby. Now I'm a dirty minded person I guess.

I want to get into bug collecting at some point. I'm only really interested in moths, though. especially death's head, im love them ?? so much???
I don't quite know where to start, however. Anything I find outside has already been massacred by one of my pets, so it's unlikely I'll have any luck there. I poke around Amazon, Ebay, and Etsy from time to time, but they seem pricey.
