is there a way to change the requirements for searches?

I think that the search engine should be changed so that you can search for two or even one letter words. For example, searching for a thread called, "What if," I would end up with the result of every thread that has ever used the word "what" in it.

I assume you mean the search engine here on the forums.
And there is a way. Ok, open the search in another tab if you can, and right under the bar, click "advanced search". That should help for more controlled searches.  :fox-:):

The search still wouldn't look for words consisting of two characters or less.

two character or less? Well I'd assume that it would put to much strain on the site, with every two letter word I know being ones used almost all the time, there would be so many results for both the site, and you to sift through. But I suppose there probably is a way to change it to do that.

Yep. We can change it but it doesn't seem like an efficient use of resources. I guess if more people find it a problem, we can change it?

I think the problem is only there with compound words like what if as previously mentioned. I've come across that problem before though in the search, cant remember what it was but i went through several pages to find something, only happened once though.
