Duolingo
« on: January 08, 2017, 04:42:08 pm »
I discovered an apo just a few days called Duolingo. Duolingo is a language learning tool that teaches many various languages from all over the world through game-like lessons. Duolingo teaches popular languages such as Spanish, French, and German as well as less contemporary languages such as Ukrainian and Turkish, even Esperanto. They're even developing a Klingon course for diehard Star Trek fans. I'm personally taking the French course because I'll be going to France in 2018 and I've learned quite a bit all ready. I was wondering if anyone here might use Duolingo, and being as they recently have added clubs, perhaps we could create a furry club for language learners.

I occasionally use DuoLingo for German ^^ I'm not as motivated or dedicated to learning a new language as I want to be, but I definitely consider DuoLingo be a helpful tool

I found out about it through my German Teacher at my high school.

I use it pretty consistiently. I also use it to go over spanish as i took a couple years of spanish in middle school, although I hated the teachers and I didn't take it once I got into high school because I actually hated the language because of the teachers.

They ALMOST have a Czech course done as well. And that's good for me because I'm 1/2 czech and have dual citizenship there XD I should know the language but I'm very limited in being able to speak it 0.o

If you don't mind, I'd like to know your usernames so that I could add you there because I have no one else to use it with right now. My username there is SolarGoat743 if you'd rather just look for me there. I was thinking if we could find enough people interested in creating one, we also could possibly establish our own language club for furries like us there.

I completed all of the Swedish lessons (they call it a tree for some reason) on there last summer! Unfortunately though, I accidentally broke my 50 day streak and it made me annoyed enough at myself to use it less and eventually not at all (especially since I could have just used the virtual currency you earn for many days of streak freezes, but just forgot).

Yes Duolingo!

Though I have to ask what do you mean by saying Ukrainian, Turkish and Esperanto are less contemporary languages?

They're less widely known than the more wide spread Romantic and Germanic languages which make most of the world. With knowing English, French, and Spanish alone anyone can speak to people from majority of the world's countries. I'm not saying that the languages are inferior to the most commonly spoken languages, but they're not as well know and are generally used in only a select country as a primary language exluding Esperanto of course because it's an international auxilliary language. I really wish Latin was taught on Duolingo because I really do appreciate the language but it unfortunately is decreasing in popularity and, is of course, no longer used in modern day cultures to converse. Although it's not popular, it's still a great language and that's what I mean when I say that about the languages mentioned above. I'm sorry if it sounded like I was refering to them as inferior to more widely known languages.
