How to make more brown show up in Hieroglyph's fur?
« on: January 21, 2017, 02:53:30 pm »
Fun fact: Hieroglyph's fur is actually supposed to be a dark, dull-ish brown.

Everytime I draw them, their fur looks fine, but then when I look at it on another screen, their fur looks black. I've tried so many times to make their fur look more brown and perhaps a little lighter, but it just looks so different on every screen. I don't want to draw their fur so light that it looks stupid and like a whole different design, but I also don't want their fur to appear so dark that it looks black.

Any tips? Things would be so much easier if every screen had the same amount of brightness and saturation.

It actually appears like a dark dull brown on my screen although at first glance they do look black. Maybe try making it a bit more brown, like less dull?
Idk, thats what I did with my sonas dark dull red I originally wanted it darker but depending on where you look it looked black or even brown so I added a bit more color to look more red.

Maybe try doing a really really thin/light layer of a lighter brown over the darker brown?

Perhaps you can outline him in a thick, actually black line to give the two colours contrast.

Maybe you can keep it the way it is, but had a brown-ish shine where the light hits them. This also gives you power to be more specific with the fur style and consistency, without having to apply the shading to the entire piece. Could be good practice for shading as well.

It does appear correct for me.
