All-Nighter Tips and Tricks
« on: January 23, 2017, 01:16:54 pm »
Okay, so school is pretty crazy for me this exams week, and I've got some major deadlines coming up. Unfortunately I also have extra work because I was only in school for one day last week due to an illness and severe weather conditions. I'm going to need to pull at least one all-nighter to work on schoolwork and studying.

Of course staying awake for too long is unhealthy and it should be avoided if possible, but sometimes life doesn't give you much choice. So I thought I'd ask if anyone has advice for pulling all-nighters (and surviving the next day). How do you stay awake? What do you do to manage stress and keep focused?  Do you sleep at all, and if you do, for how long?

EDIT: Well... never mind. Something terrible happened... and just about the only upside of it is that there's literally no point in trying to pass one of my classes, so... I don't really need advice anymore. If anyone has anything they'd like to share for other interested parties, feel free.

EDIT EDIT: Never say die! I was really upset before but thankfully it turns out things aren't quite as bad as they first seemed. I had a successful half-night of working and I'm preparing for a full night tonight, and I'm going to pass that class! Thanks everyone for your helpful advice- I'll be sure to put it to good use.

I found that drinking some tea or something that has a natural source of caffeine helps me survive long school days, when I pull an all nighter the previous night.

I always find it's better to not sleep at all when pulling an all nighter, as for me at least a it's easier to just stay awake then to run on too little sleep

Blue lights and screens are stimulating to your brain, so if you can look at those, it helps you stay awake.

Yep! They teach you that in color theory; that's why so many social media logos are blue- they convey trust/calm and keep you awake to use them longer LOL

Take a nap before beginning your all-nighter, sometimes you can trick your body into thinking it doesn't need sleep that night. In orchestra camp, I did Youtube all-nighters for a whole week and by the end my body and mind were wrecked completely!! But trust me, taking a nap before the all-nighter helps a lot and eating a snack slowly also helps you stay awake. My advice sucks but I hope I helped!!
