Shrimp Thread

Can we just admirer how amazing shrimp are?

[A Red Cherry shrimp sitting atop a Marimo ball]

First of all, what even is a shrimp anyways?

"Shrimp are widespread and abundant. There are thousands of species adapted to a wide range of habitats. They can be found feeding near the seafloor on most coasts and estuaries, as well as in rivers and lakes. To escape predators, some species flip off the seafloor and dive into the sediment.[3] They usually live from one to seven years.[4] Shrimp are often solitary, though they can form large schools during the spawning season.[3][5]"- Wikipedia, Shrimp

A pretty simple paragraph, shrimp are well known as a crustacean. They are close relatives of lobsters and crabs, which are most commonly bred for human consumption-However shrimp (or prawns) are very popular in Asia.

They can be used in a variety of ways, for example, many fish hobbyists use shrimp as a common algae eater (some refer them as a member of a tank 'clean up' crew). Shrimps can live in either saltwater or tropical freshwater, and are mainly scavengers who eat plant or fish matter.

[A cluster or 'ball' of Crystal Red shrimp, a type of domesticated shrimp popular in the fish community]

Most shrimp are rather peaceful, but like in the paragraph stated above, shrimp are mainly solitary during their life cycle (with the exception of breeding seasons). Some say that shrimp are very aggressive and territorial-However, domesticated shrimp used for in-take breeding or keeping are mainly gentle tank mates who enjoy hanging out with smaller fish and other scavengers like small sucker-catfish, crabs, snails, and even clams.

Shrimp are an amazing creature, and thanks for reading this post about shrimps

YES
I've kept shrimp with my betta for a couple years, and after he died I converted it into a straight shrimp tank. Some didn't survive the move so I only have two right now - a cherry shrimp and an armino. I LOVE the size difference between them, they're so cute aaaa :lol-fox:

Yes we had crystal red shrimp forever and they were so gorgeous. Shrimp remind me of dogs in how different the varieties are.
