When practicing gets frustrated...
« on: February 12, 2017, 11:46:57 pm »
What do you do when you're practicing and you get frustrated?

When I'm frustrated playing piano (and often happens because I try to play songs that are WAYYY too hard for me too often XP) I start to hit random keys at first out of anger.
Then I tend to stop and take a 5 min breather to try and relax. Afterwards I come back and put the song aside and play another song I know very well (or improvise, Improvising calms me better since there's nothing to follow).
After a while I go back to the song I was playing and just play it through trying to not worry about mistakes (if I ABSOLUTELY have to practice it) or I just set the song aside for the day.

What are your calming techniques?

Reality is the things that, no matter how hard you try, won't cease to exist.

Whenever I get frustrated with electric bass I play songs and go over rythyms that I know really well. It kind of reminds me of why I even play the instrument.

On trombone when I get frustrated I work on my high range until it becomes unbearable, and then I am forced to take a break for awhile. When I come back I will generally do slower calming excercises and work on slower parts of my music.
