Can I get help on a speech?
« on: February 22, 2017, 10:24:18 pm »
I'm not sure how this is going to go, but I need help on a speech for my debate class. The resolution is: Should students have to do at least 20 hours of volunteer service a year to graduate high school? My position is Pro, so yes they should.

Yeah they should
It could teach them responsibility and how to help out their community
A good place to volunteer at would be at cleanups and animal shelters
There's always places that need to be cleaned up and animals that need care. It could improve house keeping skills and responsibility for pets.
Also make sure to stand up straight and talk with confidence
I wish you luck

if the help you need is in how to present it, remember, hold yourself confidently, speak clearly, and don't stiffen up.  If you start to feel tense, just laugh a little, or sigh. the WORST thing you can do is tense up.

I'll do just that, but I think it might be a little awkward laughing a little in the middle of a debate.

Writing down some of your points on cue adds is a good idea ^^ that way if you forget something you can reference your cue cards quickly

Not sure if you're looking for help on just presenting, or the topic itself, but a point you could make is that it could help people discover what they want to do with their life/their passions. A lot of high schools don't offer the opportunity to really explore things outside of core subjects, so volunteering is a way for people to try new things they might not otherwise  :fox-:P:
