Anybody else here like or own chickens?

My grandma owns them as pets, so I've had a lot of contact with chickens. They're such fun, sweet pets that unfortunately most people think of as just livestock. Believe it or not, they can be surprisingly affectionate. Although they might not have the same emotional intelligence as dogs, I've had chickens fall asleep in my lap before, and respond well to being petted. Also, they sometimes make cute noises when they're relaxed or comfortable.  :fox-:P:

I might consider getting some of my own when I'm older, at least if I have enough room/money for them.

I love chickens! I'd like to own some chickens of my own when I'm older. The cool thing about them is that they aren't expensive, even the ones with unique patterns. I think the hardest part is finding the chicken you're looking for.

Chickens are pretty cool

sometimes I like to compare them to domestic doves, they're usually always in flocks and do a wonderful job on providing eggs (depending on the breed)

You can have them clean up the yard without charge and overall, they're rather tame and have adapted to humans quite well-However I have to admit, a lot of chickens are a little aloof, and tend to go straight into danger so you gotta have a well thought-out secure coop.

They seem fun to have around but they aren't on my mind 24/7

Chickens are in my top 5 fav animals
They're really cool and remind me of small dinosaurs
I plan on getting some once I can get the proper stuff for some and put a fence around my backyard so neighbor dogs can't get em. (My backyard is like an acre and a half*. I have a chicken coop that was already here when we got the house so I may revamp that
It honestly just needs some paint
Chickens are just hella rad enough said

I love chickens! When I was in second grade, I went on a trip to Ukraine where I got to help out on a farm and collect eggs from chickens! It was so much fun

We'd really like to get chickens when we move back into a house, but our dogs are crazy and would probably kill them.

Still really love chickens though!!

I know a lot about most birds, but not much about chickens. Does anyone have breeds they like in particular for their domestication and friendliness? It'd be interesting to go meet a few sometime just to see what different species act like ^^

I'm not entirely educated on different chicken breeds but I have heard that silkies are not only soft but very friendly!

Chickens are very beautiful birds in my opinion, I especially love the ones that have tons of feathers on their head, like a bird afro
Even regular roosters are very colorful

I agree, chickens can have very elegant-looking feathers
I think my favorites are Sebright chickens:

Not sure how good of pets they make, or how many eggs they lay, but as far as their appearance goes, they look REALLY cool

Ah I've heard of that breed before, they have a amazing black and beige coloration

I forgot the name, they're average egg layers (medium sized, about two-three a week if I can remember), rarely broody and fairly docile

It would make a good pet, average egg layer-However I can't seem to remember

Also pro-tip to anyone who doesn't know what kind of chicken breed to get, there's a chicken breed generator that finds the perfect breed for you by

-Egg color, size, and availability

-Broodiness, and overall docility

-Rareness (yes some breeds are rare/demanding)

-Ability to withstand Temp/weather

-And a few other factors

Here's the link: https://www.mypetchicken.com/chicken-breeds/which-breed-is-right-for-me.aspx

The site overall helped/educated me a lot about backyard chickens from their care guides-They provide coops, food, and even live chicks/juveniles

I've been browsing that site for a few mins and like.. I'm srsly considering getting a couple hens instead of a second parrot when I have my own property omf?

I also didn't realize how inexpensive they were; and yet they seem to be such a docile and beneficial companion animal! The eggs

I'll def ask u in the future for advice omg

Bro I'd totally recommend them (it'll be even better since you've had experience with birds), they'd be a lovely add to your yard and property!-Just do your research and you'll do well

Also if you have local farmers I'm sure enough some will let you adopt or take in hens (I wouldn't recommend chicks if you're busy)

Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you need some tips

-It's been a while since I've done some research on chickens but I still got some info on me
