How do you get out of art block?
« on: March 30, 2017, 10:39:46 pm »
Been thinkin about this and thought it could be useful for other people as I've found and used other peoples techniques that helped well ^^

What I do in no specific order.
-Chang the color or settings on my sketch or inking tool or try out a new tool to sketch with.
-Make, re-vamp, or buy a new character. Not always possible when feeling uninspired or have no money.
-Listen to music while drawing, especially japanese stuff or OSTs.
-Try out different styles, mostly non-chibi stuff since I want a more serious(though still somewhat cute) style.
-Practice different techniques or anatomy.
-If I'm still feeling uninspired I'll play video games or watch cartoons for a couple hours to a few days.

Taking a break from drawing is also good...unless your someone like me who is almost literally addicted to drawing :'D

So what are some things you do to get out of or manage your art(writers, etc.) block?

  • Find new music that makes your heart do weird stuff (sorta like Nagi said; OSTs work very well, or any sort of score from a movie)
  • If you've been drawing by coloring in lines for a while, try painting something, or vice versa.
  • Consume media-- what I mean by this is, refocus on what inspires you-- movies, music, video games, graphic novels, other art pieces, cosplay, photography, etc. Once you see all this other great stuff being made, you're gonna want to make it too!
  • Practice new or dynamic poses, or draw something completely different from what you normally draw (i.e. if you're drawing anthro wolves all the time, try drawing a feral dragon or a weird looking fish!)
  • If all else fails, watch Netflix or YouTube until you feel like drawing again. Like Nagi said, sometimes you just need a breakkkkkkkk

That's just stuff I do though! Pretty generic
