The Great Gatsby:
« on: April 02, 2017, 02:17:18 am »
Rating: 8/10

I had a hard time understanding it at first but as my teacher explained some of the chapters I got into it pretty well. The narrator, Nick Carraway was super chill and I related to him pretty well so I had fun reading this book.
I had a hard time figuring out what point it was trying to make until my teacher did some prodding and I figured it out as well. I love how this book took the stereotypical "American Dream" idea of a poor boy becomming rich and getting a girl, and corrupts it showing how unrealistic that is and all the corrupt schemes that would have to happen for that to actually work.

The end of the book is pretty sad and tragic, although poetic. (not spoiling).

Overall, I'd recommend this book to people who love books that are harder on the mind and a bit confusing to grasp. Otherwise it'll bore you to death if someone isn't there to read it with you.

I also recommend reading with an audiobook to keep track of who's speaking.

Reality is the things that, no matter how hard you try, won't cease to exist.

Our class read that book sometime in my Junior year. I thought it was pretty good. It was fun immersing myself in the older culture of the time period (although I can't even remember when it took place now).
