« on: April 05, 2017, 11:40:53 pm »
This thread is to be a compilation of fursuit building tutorials for the members of FT, as well as someplace to post your own tips and advice for others to use.
If you have any tutorials you would like to share or would like me to add to the list, please don't hesitate to post them!
This is a massive work in progress- don't worry, there's plenty more to come! ;w; I'm just posting because I'm scared of accidentally deleting it while I work.

Absolutely. I might add a section just for technical things such as sewing, because if you can't sew you're going to have trouble making a suit  :fox-:P:

If in US, go to Joann's. Their fur selection is scrawny, but the prices are always low due to coupons.

They seem to have a good selection of quality furs! Added.

That's true, if you're on a tight budget and it's your first suit that's something you could try for practice. Joann's is also great for upholstery foam though, the ones I've been to have had a great selection of thicknesses, and as you said if you catch it on sale the prices are superb.

Good place to get foam but if you plan on wearing the suit at all I highly recommend against buying fur Jo-anns unless its purely for practice or you know good quality fur when you see it(cause once in a blue moon they do have good fur).
Your better off saving a few extra bucks to get fur that lasts.

Thinking about it though, Jo-anns fur is so thin and stringy if you wanna practice with something similar to high quality fur buy and practice on some fleece.

I'm way broke, so no special fur, but their foam is awesome!

Yeeeeah, I once went to Joanns looking for some white fur but it was sort of off white and scratchy. If you go to Hobby Lobby they actually have some decent fur, but the selection is tiny. It's where I'm getting some white fur from for my birthday(hopefully).

They have white fur now. Maybe not in your location. What season did you go in

Do NOT get fur from Joanns or Hobby Lobby! It's very low quality!
If you can, order it from Amazon! It's not "the best" but it is really great! I ordered my white fur from there.

Just save a bit longer, trust me your much better off saving for good fur than getting bad fur cause its cheap.
And I agree on the foam, their foam is great!
Fleece is also cheap and a much better alternative and if done right can look awesome on a suit assuming your not doing realism of coarse XD

This is my first time making a suit. It's for my sister's costume project. I might remodel it after this year if it falls apart.

I know, but since I'm really just making hooves for practice as my first project I don't want to waste money on expensive materials when I might mess up completely.

I made my own hooves for less than $50! :) I can teach you! No sewing required!
