How did you choose your pets' names?
« on: May 11, 2017, 05:58:41 pm »
What lead you guys to name your pets?

Navi: I actually originally wanted to name her Midna, since that's the name of one of my favorite LoZ characters, and her coat is black (Midna sounds like midnight), but the rest of my family turned the name down. So I thought of some names of different LoZ characters, and brought up "Navi," even though there's not too many significant similarities between the character and my cat. I just thought it suited her somehow. The rest of my family agreed, and it stuck.

Ash: When we got him as a kitten, his fur was a bunch of varying shades of grey. So we named him Ash.

Autumn: She's gone now (R.I.P.), but we named her because her calico coat reminded us of fall leaves.

I was seven when we got our poodle, so Biscuit was really the only thing I was willing to name him.

For our other dog, she was a rescue and already had the name Annie. However, due to her super wild behavior we also trained her to respond to "Animal".

The two hamsters I had (HoneyBun and Charles, who are both dead now) got their names because I just thought they sounded right.
Walley is named Walley because he was found outside of a Walgreens before being brought to a shelter.

Peanut- We took him in when our neighbors' cat had kittens, and their twelve-year-old daughter had named him, and it was so cute that we couldn't change it.
Molly- She was already named this when we adopted her from the humane society. My sister calls her "Lil' Mama," sometimes, and it's the funniest thing in the world, honestly.
Squishy- It seemed like the most fitting name for a really fat, angry cat.
Bear- (He's a tiny Yorkie.) He came with the name.

All my dogs had their names when we got them
I usually just keep the names shelters give them because they respond to them

Poltergeist is named poltergeist because I love horror

I got my dog when I was very little. The moment I saw her I chose the name "Angel" since her fur is a light tan/creamy color, almost white (but her back and ears are more tan). I can't remember if I actually had a name planned ahead of time, but if I did I dropped the idea pretty quickly just to name her Angel. XD

I named Pixel because I'm a big nerd and I like technology/computers/old video games. To stem off of that, his middle name is Atari for the same reasons LOL

My family wanted to name him like Einstein or Newton but how many African greys are named Einstein, honestly omg..

I name my fish based on what they remind me of LOL. I have some zebra danios named Marty, 24601, and Racing Stripes. Orange and yellow guppies named Candy Corn, Creamsicle, Lemon, and Molten Daniel. 2 panda platys named Po and Shang. And a pleco named Cinderella

Our dogs are named Biscuit and Bubbles. They were rescue dogs when we got them, and they actually appeared on TV to vote for their names (to hopefully get them adopted) because their situation was so horrible and everyone was hesitant to adopt them. We happened on them by chance during one of PetSmart's adoption days when they were selling little black lab puppies, and they were in the back in crates.
We let them come out and play (they're sisters, so both dogs were a package deal) and they would NOT respond to their voted names (Tasha and Angel) and so when we adopted them my sister picked out Bubbles for 'Tasha' and I chose Biscuit for 'Angel' just cause she has the same colors as a biscuit LOL

I named one of my cats Tinsel because I got her around Christmastime, and her colors and green eyes just sort of reminded me of tinsel.

I named my Siamese cat Willow because I love willow trees, and she's pretty like one. That's also what her eyes reminded me of, somehow, even though they're blue.

My black cat came with the name Calypso, it was just too pretty and fitting to change.

And my one-eyed tabby boy is named Finnan because that's Irish for handsome, and he definitely was quite handsome before he broke his jaw by crashing into the wall too many times. Now he's a bit odd-looking, since his jaw is crooked. I nicknamed him Crookedstar after the crooked-jawed Warriors character because of that.

Casper; named after...well casper the friendly ghost. my dad is really the one that came up with this one
Namira; named after the daedric prince from the elder scrolls, namira. shes basically named after an evil demon LOL
Wednesday; named after Wednesday Friday Addams. my all time favorite character. it also matches her, since Wednesday is emotionless and distant, like the character : p
Venus; it just randomly came to me, I guess. She is kind of the color of the planet, plus Venus is the goddess of love. I've always loved the name, as well.

My dog (whom I don't have anymore) was named Akira, because I've always liked the name. It's Japanese for bright/clear, and it's always sounded pretty to me.

No, I totally wasn't partially naming her after Light's alias "Kira" in Death Note.

Well my cat is named Brownie. We called her that because she looks like a caramel brownie. Our bird, the one that's still alive, is named Chichi. That's a longer story. It started with two birds, named Cheech and Chong, after the comedy duo. Then we got two more birds, and gave them derived names of, Chichi and Chacha. We then got two more named Snow and Rainfall. Chichi is the only one that's still alive.

My oldest cat I named Raven cause at the time we were looking for a cat and there was one at a shelter that I fell in love with who was named Raven but we couldn't get her(I don't remember why, I was very young). Then we found an ad in the paper for kittens so we went a got a kitten of my choice and I gave him the name Raven, it also works for him cause he has a black coat!

Yin and Yang - were the names of some cats we had to give up, we had them since birth. First born was Yin a little brown tabby and then Yang who was all white(developed points later). I just thought it was so creative of me to name them Yin and Yang and at the time I thought Yin was female :P

My rats were all named something random and simple cause I was young .3.

My dad had the name Jasmine already, and my parents named my other cat Socks, with my brother naming the last of the kitten trio.

I honestly don't remember how we came up with Maddie and Cody

Pidge came with her name but the lady who worked at the pet store named her that because when she opening the box Pidge arrived in and her grey head poked out she though she was a pigeon :fox-:P:

My sister named Kiwi Kiwi because she's green and it's a cute name ^^
