Practical uses of learning certain other languages?
« on: June 14, 2017, 12:18:15 pm »
I've considered learning one of a few languages now that I'm going into high school, but I can't decide which has more practical uses. Spanish by what I found is most practical in the western hemisphere, but then again, German should be very easy to learn. Chinese or Japanese would be useful, as China and Japan are some of the most populous countries in the world. I can't decide where I want to go. If I can learn one language then I guess I could probably learn another, but what language would be a good first to learn?

Spanish and French are generally seen to be easier to learn than German.

It really just depends on your plans, Spanish might be best to start with (I think it can tie in nicely with Portuguese too) although German is pretty fun. x3

I haven't learn any other languages but I think Spanish would be the most practical due to how much its used, at least here.
I plan on learning Spanish eventually solely due to its usefulness. Japanese is my choice for something just for fun ^^ (although I heard is hard to learn and even native speakers have trouble with it sometimes)

Spanish is very useful! Any romance language (French, Italian,  Spanish) are both beautiful and easy to learn. Likewise, by knowing one, you're able to mostly understand others! For example, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian all have cognates and are very similar. German is extremely difficult, as well as Japanese, from what I've heard. Not sure about Chinese though.

In the west, Spanish is most useful, I'd say, with Chinese and French coming second.
