A Bio-luminecent Character theory.
« on: July 14, 2017, 06:04:37 am »
(Couldn't tell what board to put this in.)
So, this is a theory I am making to explain a characters Bio-luminescent ability connecting with emotions.

Here is a rough draft of it:

When you are angry you release a chemical called epinephrine, also know as adrenaline. Adrenaline is often credited to a sudden burst of energy. When animals are Bio-luminescent, the reason why is because just as some animals use heat to release energy, Bio-luminescent creatures use light to release energy. So, when the character is mad, or are doing something that will cause excess or unwanted energy, they will give or a glowing effect.

I'd appreciate any feedback of any type, I'm kinda curious if I messed up on this or if I was right.

Is this fictional and fanciful, or realistic bio-luminescence?

A mix of both. I'm trying to take real science behind Bio-luminescence and mix it with a fictional character. If I had to chooses one though, I'm trying to keep it realistic.

Then bio-luminescence is cause by bacteria that emits light inside of a larger organism. Why those bacteria glow, we're not absolutely certain. At that level there's no rock-solid anything. On a larger scale it's caused by bacteria.

First of all I think it's super cool that you're making something like this.

It's mostly marine creatures that have bioluminescence because of their bacteria, so maybe the creature could be amphibious?

Okay. The source I used said it was from energy, i probably misinterpreted it though.

Edit: I forgot to merge posts-

Oh sweet! Maybe their diet has the bioluminescent bacteria, and they evolved so their chemicals activated them when they need to scare or impress other creatures? Sounds like it'll be interesting however you make them.

In theory the bacteria needs energy which it gets from the host, this in turn requires the host to continually consume fuel for both itself and the bacteria. It's more of a practical use for the creature than a p!ace to release controlled energy. But that is in current extant bio-luminescent creatures.
