Predator or prey
« on: September 28, 2017, 10:33:09 pm »
I saw this poll on another site and I thought it'd be interesting to bring here ^^

From my experience in the fandom it seems like the majority of people's fursonas are predator species. I've always found this very interesting personally.

Both my fursonas (cow & kangaroo) are prey animals. I just don't find predator species represent me well

Both skunks and platypus are predators, surprisingly enough  :fox-:P: They eat like...tiny things though

Technically sloths are prey animals, but my sona isn't realistic so they eat anything.
So prey, I suppose

I feel obligated to say predator because moths can and will eat your nice sweaters.

Although Hieroglyph is arguably built more like a carnivore (sharp teeth, etc.), I voted other because he is omnivorous with a digestive tract much like a human's. He lives in a human/civilized society where the whole "predator/prey" thing isn't really relevant anymore, so he doesn't need to worry about hunting or being hunted. He also doesn't have a feral counterpart where this could be applicable to.

Blas is a goat which is typically a prey animal but he isn't typical.
I felt 'scavenger' was the most appropriate because his sharp teefers are more meant for tearing into lost souls rather than living ones. uwu
Andy is a feral coyote with emo hair who eats animals and garbage so he's a predator and a scavenger.
My currently unnamed raptor sona eats lots of dead things (albeit fresh) when he isn't advocating for scaly rights so he is also a scavenger.
I see a pattern here...

I think the reason most people's sonas are predator species is because a lot of people have canine or dragon-like sonas, of which are most are predators. And a lot of people like the look of sharp teeth (me included).

Serana is a cougar and vampire so definitely a predator. She's eats more than just meat but her diet mostly consists of blood and sweats :P

Foxi, if she were a pure-blooded fox, would be a scavenger. However, being 65% cat and a grim reaper, she's definitely more of a predator. She eats mostly meat, aside from sweets and strawberries, and won't go near vegetables.

Katsuro rarely eats, but being a demon, I'd say predator.

Lemon and Lyric are dragons, and they both have sharp teeth, but they don't eat meat. Lemon eats seafood, berries, and of course sweets, and Lyric eats mostly berries. If they were feral, they'd more likely be prey just based off diet and personality.

Karasu is definitely a predator, and if she doesn't eat anyone stupid enough to go near her cave, she'll kill them anyway. She's... not a very friendly dragon.

Jamison is a predator. He's a reaper wolf, what can I say?

For Onyx, Frostbite and Sakana, probably scavengers.

Akira is more of a scavenger, and Sora and Sweet are predators, being a stoat and a ferret.

Bramble is a monster cat, so... predator. xD

Kyro is more of a predator. Kytsekeiru can have any diet, but Kyro is more of a carnivore.

Ravenna is a scavenger.

Okay I eventually settled on scavenger, because despite Dolly being a dog which would normally be a predator, she's wayyy too lazy to hunt. Maybe if she really had to.

If we're being absolutely technical, the real world equivalent of all of the source species that inspired the creation of my fursona's would all fall into the scavenger category. Them all being some degree of Fox.

However, they, of course, all live in mostly civilized worlds inspired and thus have an omnivore diet. So just as well they all could technically be considered predators as well but only in the sense, you would use to describes man's own relationship with the environment and even then the word is loosely fitting.

The majority of foxes in the world are predators. But my sona is also dog and wolf, which are usually predators, so Zuzu is a predator, for sure.

Lets see...
Tots - Fox? - Predator
Skylar - Ram/Sheep thing - Prey
Poxi - Doggoronni - Prey. Poxi doesn't hunt, but runs the risk of coyotes since they're a small doggoronni.
Mar - Kytsekeiru - ???
Abbi Noon - Cat - I'd say prey, since around here they are often eaten by the coyotes...
Unknown - Protogen - Predator,  I'd think.
So a majority is prey.
