Is anyone here into conlanging?
« on: December 17, 2017, 11:43:42 pm »
Conlanging, the art of making constructed languages, is my favorite hobby. I've made a lot of languages, including Ghúath, Ronyka, Kepêmoki, xíronu, and an evolved version of xíronu with words like pngíʕħo.

I hope someone else shares my weird and semi-obsessive hobby.  :fox-:):

Seriously, wolverines are super uncommon fursonas.

German thingy of the day:
das Haus, die Häuser. This means "house", but not home. That would be Hause, but only when it has a preposition. "Zu Hause" means at home (even though "zu" means towards), and "Nach Hause" means towards home (even though nach means "after" ... or "towards" depending on the context ... or sometimes "at").

I've never attempted making a language of my own, unfortunately (though I have tried making various scripts that will probably never be put to use), but I just wanted to say I love conlangs! I find them interesting and think it's sad that a lot of people don't think of them as "real" languages.

(Esperanto and Na'vi are on my list of [many] languages I'm interested in learning  :fox-:P: )

You should try it! It's pretty neat and you can find lots of video tutorials.

I'd love to learn to make a language, mainly for my own species. But I don't think I could be that imaginative lol

I did make a language when i was much younger but it was very basic with only a few symbols which meant stuff rather than alphabetical
Perhaps you could tell us a bit about your languages, i'm curious? Unless they are secret :0

I had a symbolic language when I was younger, but I'm retrospect I guess it was more a way to encode messages because they were just English with different characters :fox-:P:

I make a lot of phonetic names though that could be considered a new language in a way since it's for a remote island place I'm working on.

Kepêmoki was my first language and it kinda sucks. First mistake, it's oligosynthetic. Basically that means that I have like 150 roots and combine them to make ALL the words. It's a pretty common thing for noobs to do.

My second language, Ghúath, is much better. It is naturalistic and synthetic (lot's of suffixes like spanish). It also has verb-subject-object word order. "eats he food".

My third was Ronyka, a head marking language inspired by turkish and finnish. Head marking means that you mark the syntactic head. I don't know how to explain it so I'd just look it up if I were you.

Finally is Xíronu. It is inspired by languages of the amazon rainforest. It's still a work in progress.

Yes! Me and my best friend have three shared, and around four personal ones. At least I have four personal ones ^^*
However, the first one I mde in third grade's the one I know best, I know a few spoken phrases by memory but it's mostly a written language. It's honestly more of a code then a language.  :fox-:P:

Ot depends on what type of lang. Are you going for a naturalistic lang? If so, try to throw in some "gimmicks". Xíronu inflects almost everything based on accent. So yeah, try to put some interesting features and irregularities into it.
