How do you act on non-furry sites?
« on: September 22, 2009, 09:52:08 pm »
Do you try to keep your furriness a secret, or do you not care? For a while, I tried to keep them seperate, but after a while, I started to let them mix, except for the places where revealing that would be a Very Bad Idea. I'd tell you my non-furry name, but I'm worried people would spread it around. >.>
I don't post much, sorry. If I go for months without posting... I was too busy. :P

Should this go in the Debate Board? idkmybffKikoshi

Anyways, I don't care if people know if I'm a furry or not on the internet simply because it IS the internet. Really, the chances of you meeting someone online without intentions on both parties is highly unlikely, so I don't fret at all. However, I will tell people I'm a furry if I feel I want to, and the same goes for my real first name.

Yeah.

For me, it depends on what site it is.

If it's Facebook, then it's a no. Mostly everyone doesn't know I'm a furry, and it will be that way for a while. Now other websites, like various forums (this is the only one I'm on actually, but I'm giving an example), I would be open about it. So basically, if it's a site most of my friends see, then no furriness.

I've long since stopped caring about whether people know I'm a fur, at least in the realm of my personal life.  Most people I encounter who aren't furs either don't know what the fandom is (and I'm pretty good at giving a good first impression of us), or they have no problem with furries.  Plus, in my case, I have other hobbies and aspects of my identity that are more likely to put people off, furry pales in comparison.

On a professional level, that's a different story, but I keep my professional life and identity very seperate from anything furry-related (among other things).

Well unless other sites are social networking sites, I most likely don't bring up that I'm a furry for the sole fact that I had any reason to join that site  with no relevance to the furry fandom, so there's no point in bringing it up (unless a topic comes up that refers to furries, so there's a 75% chance I'll mention I am one to prove a point).
Other than that, if it's Facebook or Twitter I mention it nonchalantly, with so far no malicious response.

Same as it ever was. I don't wax philisophic about furry, and refer to my grabby things as hands and my walky things as feet, so I doubt it's known, though it's not really a deliberate thing.

If it's a place for politics, I talk Politics. Place for guns? Guns. Etc.

They just don't usually overlap.

on non-furry sites i might mention it if i notice another fur, but other than that it's just talking. i spend most of my time on either facebook or motocross.com so i usally talking with other riders. wich is why i constanly talk about bikes. it probally dosn't help that bikers are freindlier and one of the few furs that ride was a jackass. so i don't show my furside as much even on furry sites. i love the fandom more than it looks, it's just i tend to talk to the people i understand more.

I'm basically the same, but I don't talk about squirrels with tits or animals that talk, unless we're suddenly talking about the Lion King - at which point I'm a little bit too passionate to hide it much longer. If people discover it, I can't say I really care. I wear a collar for crying out loud, randomers on the street don't bother me, so randomers x-thousand-miles-away really don't bother me.

My furriness on another site I frequent, Fallout Studios, is a well-kept non-secret. Sometimes it comes up and we all joke about it. Like with the recent Guard Dog update for TF2. :P

I sometimes hint at my furriness, but that's it. Most of my friends don't know about the fandom/think it's cool that I like anthropomorphs, so I can openly talk to them about it. Of course, some of my other friends have negative views on it, so I don't bring up the topic around them.

Non-furry sites?
Are there really such things?

But yeah, the olny other thing I do besides this is FB, which I have not said anything on. (However, I do have a few furry friends on FB)

I`m open `bout being a furry on the internet exept a few sites. In real life is another story. Since it`s so unknown in my country (I know at least 1 furry, and a few people that know `bout this fandom) I have yet to meet someone that have a bad impression (or an impression at all!) about the furry fandom. If someone ask me if I`m a furry/know about the furry fandom,I ask them what they know `bout it before I answer.
I'm confused, oh wait, maybe I'm not.

Websites with people I don't know? Don't care if they know or not.

Facebook and IM with people I really know? NOOOOO. I brought it up once to see how they might react, they say furry is all about yiff and "immoral" stuff and whatnot. Like...adult content. ._.; Never went there again. And all the people I go to school with think I'm freak enough, I don't want to give them an actual REASON.

The only real difference for me is that I don't do as much of the *Brings out a 10kwatt PA system and stands behind it, microphone in hand* roleplay! *Turns it off* business around non-furry communities. However, I DO keep a lot quiet (not just furriness) when it comes to Facebook and other things where I interact with relatives out of fear of consiquence.

I act much as I do/will on here: I try to generally remain of good cheer, except when the conversation requires a more serious approach.  Granted, I don't frequent many sites except one on which, due to company policy, I cannot express political, religious, etc., opinions.

As for furriness, I don't bother with it one way or the other on other sites; no-one's asked, else I would tell them.  I've posted pictures of my furry character, but no-one's really made the connection that it's mine.  The only person to whom I actually avoid mentioning my place in the anthro- community is my brother.  Ironic, given that it's through his prejudices that I came to be a part of it.
