Englishmen and Australians (and any other place once under the rule of UK, as to adopt customs), are exempt from this, as that is the standard way of teaching.

Technically, America was once ruled by Britain.

I don't try to pretend that I am not American nor do I try to shove politics into everybody's faces. I still think it is silly that we Americans think that all people from other countries hate us. It would take a very rude person to ignore you just because you live in America. I will spell the words the way I was taught and you are free to do the same. That is just what I have to say.

It is simply the fashion in which I have always spelled.  No doubt, because of reading large amounts of literary work from across the pond when I was little.  It always seems to be an issue in school over here though, especially in English and art courses, losing points off of work because of spelling.

I write both ways. Its weird. I have no rhyme or reason for doing so.

I actually got criticized the other night over this, when discussion of it came up.
I was pretty much told that 'doing it to stand out, and go against the normal'.

In my case it's because the first system I used to learn English was a British English one.

I cannot write, and I don't have a spellchecker, so I might use both color and colur in the same sentence. And yes, I live in the U.S.

As an American, my English teacher is always telling me I'm wrong, but I throw it back in her face that that's wrong. I started using them long ago because I admire Britain and really am not happy calling myself American. And because I don't want to be an idiot around Brits. Yet, often, especially when say forum posting, I slack off and forget to use the correct spellings. That and my spellcheck is always correcting them to American.

I don't use the proper way
No use since I'm in america and if I did that it'd just be weird. Especially in school because they could mark points off I'm sure. If you use it I won't throw a fit about it. It's not really that much different than american English. There's 2 different types of English and that's fine. None of them are wrong.

When I type, I just do it however it comes out. Some words I use the spelling with the U, other words I don't. Mostly just color and favorite, but as you can see, autocorrect keeps changing it...

OKAY AUTOCORRECT
I WILL SPELL IT THE WAY I WANT

NnnnnnnnnnnNNNNN COLOUR.

THERE.

It can't get capslock >:3

I have no idea what I am, though. Some kind of Irish-British thing that was born and raised in America? Does that make me just some weird American that likes tea and has an annoying accent? No idea, honestly.
In my speaking, I have no choice but to have this horrible accent (it's not super strong, but it still gets on my nerves), but sometimes I'll speak really proper and then other times I'll use slang words like "ain't" and swear worse than a sailor. It all depends on my mood. xD

I only used colour and favourite to screw with my English teacher who said it was not correct English and diddn't want me to use it, so i kept it up the entire year, trying to find ways to put these two words in my essays as much as possible.

I also spelled random stuff in the first letters of each of the lines on my essays in that class, normally just silly stuff though, one of my favorites was "Mega Moist"

I made it out with an 85!

For the longest time when I was younger, I always spelled Color as Colour and EVERY English teacher I ever had was on me about it. Some would try to explain that was technically correct but also wrong, others would just try to claim it was totally wrong and needed to be corrected. I was so confused I just stuck writing the way I always had until High School. These days I use the American ways to spell things because people kept bugging me to spell things "properly", spell checkers and autocorrect included.

I'm 'murican, so I spell it like color, favorite, etc. I doubt I could switch to the other version.

I really do it how I feel.

Sometimes it's color, sometime's it's Colour.

Some are more ingrained and I'll use because it makes more sense.

Like I prefer GREY over GRAY because Grey represents the color more in my mind. Similarly Armour, and Favourate because it looks better to me.

so I sortta do as I feel.
