Multiple Music Personalities.
« on: June 02, 2010, 10:49:50 pm »
Like the title may suggest, I have what could be described as multiple music pesonalities. I have almost every genre you can think of on my iPod, save for a few extremes. Let's see, just to give a demostration, the first ten songs that come up with my iPod on shuffle are:
  Floating - Josh Hunsaker
What Happens Tomorrow - Duran Duran
Love Song - Sara Barelies (Covered by Four Years Strong)
  Fireflies - Owl City
  Pressure - Paramore
Traumst du - Oomph! (A German band)
Starstrukk - 3OH!3 Featuring Katy Perry
Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
No More Gas - DJ Earworm
  Numb - Linkin Park

Do you see the conflicting genres here? I just went from Electronic, to Alt. Rock, to Techno, to Indy, to Foriegn, to Mashup, to Emo. And in only ten shuffles! I have even wierder ones. I have an entire soundtrack from this site called OverClocked Remix. They make remixes of music from video games.

Go figure.
Anyway, I think it's weird. Anybody else do this?
I only think in the form of crunching numbers.

This has been a common thing throughout my musical life! Check it out:
Lotus eater-Opeth
Dashboard-Modest Mouse
Know Your Enemy-Rage Against The Machine
Sacrificed Sons-Dream Theater

This wasn't shuffle, because if I did that, it would mostly be prog. I just wanted to show that I have a thing for indie as well :3

Oh, I've got this for sure, too. I don't think I have any more than two or three songs to a specific genre, and yet still have a good 300 and some odd songs that I listen to religiously. Let's see, if we're doing it by the shuffle game...

Feel Good Inc.- Gorillaz
Hatredcopter- Dethklok
Lose Yourself- Eminem
Midnight- cornandbeans
Allan Iverson "Press Hop" Remix- DJ Steve Porter
Fashion Zombies- Aquabats
Mama Said Knock You Out- LL Cool J
Beverly Hills- Weezer
Piano Man- Billy Joel
Drop Audio- The Qemists ft. Id

I'd say that covers the spectrum pretty fully... alternative pop to heavy metal, some electronic, sample remixes, alternative, piano ballad, synth-rock... it's just about all there. But there are those days I just let shuffle do it's job and go right from something like the Free Bird guitar solo right into a Venetian Snares breakcore song, and a ton of other polar opposites. Yet it always seems to flow so smoothly, I'm never caught off guard even in the most radical beat changes. So maybe it's not multiple personalities- it might be one who's just really, really fluid or really, really finicky.
And that's why they call me Duino Duck- Drake of Daring, Mandarin of Magnificence, Water Fowl of West Seattle!

I love the Gorillaz. Their music videos are awesome.
If you like Indie Punk, then you should definitely check out the Punk Goes series. They made different albums like Punk Goes 70s, Punk Goes 80s, Punk Goes Crunk, Punk Goes Acoustic, Punk Goes Pop, and I think there's even a few more. They get punk indie bands to cover popular songs for the album's genre (70s, 80s, Crunk, Acoustic, Pop). I've heard them cover songs like The Fray's - Cable Car with heavy metal and screamo. I've seen them cover Rihanna's - Disturbia with electric guitars. It's like these two amazing genres decided to do it, and this is their lovechild of music awesomeness.
Thats's another thing! Mixing up different genres of music into one. Take for example the band, Pendulum (One of my favorites). They take what would be a great song with just guitars and awesome rock tones and then add delicious sounding electronic bits in there to make it even more awesome.  I'm listening to Propane Nightmares as I type this.
That pretty much sums up what makes music amazing to me.

A band like Porcupine Tree mixes a lot of acoustic stuff with heavier, crunchy guitars. They also aim to make odd time signitures seem more understandable and stuff.

They please both my heavy and light sides, it's a perfect mix. Opeth is the same way, they have extremely heavy songs, but also, very light acoustic ones.

I like song based off of video games and the raps skullkruncher13 are amazing, the Odst Rap gets my blood pumping. I really need to branch out to other Genres. I mostly stick to alt rock. Let shuffle the dice!

The Last Night - skillet
Polyamorous - Breaking Benjamin
Furry song - Kurrel the Raven
Injection - Rise against
No game - Breaking Benjamin
Generations Lost - Rise against
Last resort - Papa roach
Breathe Into Me - Red
Sooner or Later - Breaking Benjamin
Taste the cake - (Unknown artist)

I have 212 song on my Go-gear and that's what I got. I mostly listen to Breaking Benjamin and rise against. I like some Alt rock band but some I just can't stand to listen. I like songs about War and violence. I can close my eyes and just dream away with these songs. I find it funny that I can name any breaking Benjamin song in under 10 seconds and know almost every lyric.

I can't say much, really, as it usually comes in phases. What I listen to ranges from artists like:

Dream Theater
Goldie Lookin' Chain
The Toy Dolls
My Chemical Romance
Bullet for my Valentine
New Model Army
The Smiths
Linkin Park
Tim Minchin
Bill Bailey
The Prodigy

So I'd say there's quite a bit of variation in there. Of course, there are a lot more artists and all that, but yeah. Different offerings from all of these artists I'd say, and I've still got more to look at. :p
