Decent music suggestions?
« on: June 13, 2010, 12:13:48 am »
Well, I decided to get back into listening to music again, after 7 years. And so, I would love some suggestions from you guys for clean music. My definition of clean is no swearing or suggestive lyrics.

So, what the albums I've got so far are:

Flood and Robot Parade- They Might Be Giants
Green and Out of Time - R.E.M.

My favorite 2 bands. :)

So, suggestions?

So no swearing or suggestive themes whatsoever? If you don't mind the use of a swear only once or maybe twice in the length of the entire song, the list could get a lot longer. It really all depends on if that taboo is flexible. But, in the meantime a few albums:

 The Clash- "The Singles"
Yoshida Brothers- "Best of the Yoshida Brothers"
Vitamin String Quartet- "Vitamin String Quartet: The Tribute to Guitar Hero"

I can't really recommend many albums, since I listen to only a few tracks on each, so I'll throw in a few other random songs that I really like:

 cornandbeans- Midnight (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtOUu2E3bck)
The Qemists- On the Run (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOLPlYT62ZQ)
 Bloc Party- Helicopter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R6S5CJWlco)
The Mountain Goats- Old College Try (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSLDkIJnNF8)
Cage the Elephant- Ain't No Rest for the Wicked (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U631FGnXDXY)
 Ore Ska Band- Tsumasaki (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7166E7tSq0I)
Johnathan Coulton- Dance, Soterios Johnson, Dance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3g6rE4tB2lM)
 Hank Green- DFTBA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0VnI1dI7zw)
 Aphex Twin- Vordhosbn (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwe10iDlFQo)

That's all I can think of for now... still, there's plenty to go through. Also, I'll apologize in advance if I messed up and a D- or A-word sneaked in there by mistake- again, I don't really know how flexible that taboo is, but I did my best to screen this stuff without listening to the entire thing. As far as I know,it should be OK. And if I did mess up, it's a one-time thing in the song.

Happy listening, and welcome back to music. We've sure missed you.

And that's why they call me Duino Duck- Drake of Daring, Mandarin of Magnificence, Water Fowl of West Seattle!

Some of my favorites include swearing... Darn.
I've got more, though.

If it has a tune and I like it, I listen to it. Regardless of how nerdy or obscure.

"I Should Be Allowed To Think"- TMBG(If you haven't already heard it)

"Everybody Needs A Ninja"- Matthew Ebel (As long as you don't consider "hell" a curse. It only comes up once.)

"Wish I was Back in the Army"- the cast of "White Christmas"

"Still Alive"- Sung by Ellen McLain as GLaDOS(someone had to do it...)

"Beautiful Bride," and "Missing"- Flyleaf (I'm quite fond of this band)
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfW4CkYrjXs&feature=channel) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X5lbZi6UUo&playnext_from=TL&videos=HPPz4sjOSWc)

"Speed of Sound,"- Coldplay. As a matter of fact, I recommend the entire album X&Y. Particularly this song, "Low," and "A Message."
Meh.

Almost anything from System of a Down  or Serj Tankian, if you don't mind the politics in most of Serj's stuff.

Also, for listening to it, I would go to http://www.pandora.com. They put together a custom playlist by the artists and songs you listen to.

Before I suggest anything, what type of music do you like?
Also, would you like instrumental video game music?

My favorite types of music are Rock (especially 60s classic), new age, and instumental. Another coule of albums that I have and like:

The Zelda: Twilight Princess soundtrack
The Proclaimers - Sunshine on Leith
Enya - Shephard Moons, Watermark, Memory of Trees, and the Celts.

So in answer to your question, Seth, yes, I like video game music as well. I'm trying to find where I can get the HL2 soundtrack...

EDIT: A couple song I like that I don't have the rest of the album to go with them are:

Sweet Home Alabama - Lynard Skynard
Rubber Biscuit - Blues Brothers.

Ok well I post some video game songs for now.

Just about anything from Klonoa is great.
Traveler
King of Sorrow's Theme
Cursed Leorina
There's a lot more in Klonoa but I'll post some from other games.
Meaning of Birth from Tales of the Abyss
Nate's theme 2.0 from Uncharted 2

That's it for now. I'm on my phone, so copying and pasting takes forever.

Ooh, my favorite!

I highly suggest listening to Jimi Hendrix first.  All of it.  But if I have to choose, I recommend listening to his album Axis: Bold As Love, his work with Band of Gypsys, and all of his live performances.

Some good 60's funk and psychedelic rock would be Jefferson Airplane and (Sly and the Family Stone).

Die Krupps - To The Hilt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_Ec81NuvPA

KMFDM - Megalomaniac: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvZqWq0ZNjk

The Juliana Theory - This Is a Love Song for the Loveless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THUZZm2pgQA

My interpretation and hearing some lyrics though is pretty atrocious, though.

Hmm...well, seeing as my taste in music is a little out-there (an understatement), there's not much to gain from me. However, Porcupine Tree is a band that anyone can appreciate, because of their wide musical range.

By Porcupine Tree:
http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=pmoagjB-S_k&feature=related "Trains"
http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=0hRYDJpitQ8&feature=related "Lazarus"
http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=95QS3c_Tei4&feature=related "Way Out of Here" (this is a bit heavier)

If you're looking for good instrumental music, look no further than Scale the Summit. These guys are amazing, I've seen them live.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXq0FcYbAsU "The Great Plains"
http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=kud-EpHhzcI&feature=related "Dunes"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNdRkIR8QU0 "Glacial Planet" (my favorite!)

Hope I could help :3

So much music! :O

Video game music: I dunno if you might like Chiptune. If you do, then look up Sabrepulse. He's pretty beast.
Also the FF13 sound track! Amazing songs and such, lol. Most of FF has amazing songs.
Victims of Science - "The Device Has Been Modified" is an excellent song using Portal sounds, lol.
I can get you the HL2 soundtrack, just gimme time. :D
Also, thanks for reading my signature.

If you like Flood and Robot Parade then you should check out Lincoln it's a lot of the more alternative side of TMBG.  "Shoehorn with Teeth" is maybe their most bizarre song.
The most important thing to remember on the internet is to have a thick skin because accidentally burning your fingers on your computer is no fun at all.

Anything by Streetlight Manifesto. (I think maybe one song out of all the ones I know has a swear in it) Another good band is Skillet, they are also pretty clean.
