Can an animation in a .swf format be embedded on this forum, and into a signature as well?

Yes, by using the "flash" BBCode tag, but it's a bit limited. Theoretically, it should also work for signatures, but keep in mind that the 100px maximum height for signatures still applies.

Great! It was going to be kept less than that, don't worry. How is the flash tag used, I don't think I've ever seen it in action.

It's pretty limited, since you can't use the <param> tag with it, and it doesn't accept all URLs, so it won't work with some newer FLV players. But for ordinary flash objects, it works fine.
