How'd you choose your fursona's name?
« on: July 30, 2010, 01:26:08 am »
I got to thinking about this the other day.
And it's always interesting to read about how people chose their fursona's(/fursonas') name(s). So however many fursonas you have, whatever past fursonas you've had. Any that you have EVER had. Let's hear the story. :D

Robinee Oliver has been my fursona for three years, and unless I get mugged at gunpoint and it changes me dramatically she always will be.
"Robinee" comes from my actual middle name--Robin--and what my middle name would've been should my parents have given me the name Amber instead of Ashley, this alternate middle name being Renee. Smushed 'em together. Sounded pretty.
"Oliver" is...well. Let's just say I had a thing for Oliver Phelps at the time. And while he's still pretty gorgeous, I've found other famous figures to mindlessly drool over. But I couldn't get over being called "Ollie." I thought it was a cute name so I held on to it.

Now you go. c:

Ki ki was my RL nickname for quite a while, I also go by my real name (Ciara, you say it ki-ra)
Nothing very special but I can't think of a name that suits me better
Hopefully the above post made sense...

WEll my fursona is actually is completely designed and named after my dog, Scottie. My other fursona in progress is based of my other dog pedro, who is scottie's best friend, brother and enemy. Kneight is kind of named after my favorite time of day but i like to find my own unique way to spell things and at the time of coming up with the name i'd was thinking of the movie name "Knight and Day" and i was thinking about how freight is spelled and thats how it happend. last, is my oldest but most unseen fursona ever, Jak. It basically came around from my favorite name being Jak since the first time i saw and heard the name on the playstation game. i loved the spelling and i'd kind of wished i had that name instead of joe. well thats how they all happened

Seth has been my favorite name since I was about 6 or 7, so I chose it for my fursona.

I almost chose the name Ricky though.

zSpartancats is not my Fursona's name.  His name is Frostblind. Frostblind is a name from Project Snowblind. The man character in Snowblind was named Nathan Frost.  So basically I combined both names and came out with Frostblind.

Frostblind wasn't a furry when I first made him up. He was a white knight who had the power to control ice. When I discovered the furry fandom I originally had a cat fursona and his name was Colt. I never liked the cat fursona so I changed to a wolf. His name was Colt too. I was looking back at a paper I wrote and the main character's name was Frostblind.  So my Fursona got a new name.

Here is the video game that gave me my fursona's name. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Snowblind)

Mikune was a name I came up with when I was about 11-12 for a character that I was going to be in a game with my friends. And It was a pretty cool name so I kept using it in things since that day and when I became a furry it was the perfect name to use.

My sona's name is technically just Sym Stenops (so corny that last bit, the scientific name for stegos is stegosaurus stenops). Sym was originally Nemesis but Nemesis is my other character's name. The Symphonic was added on to Nemesis just to make it sound better. When it came time to name Sym I called her Symph for awhile before shortening it.

My main fursona, Sage, was named when I found the word on Dictionary.com. I was just searching for random words when I saw it. She originally had another name, but I had saved it on to my stepmoms computer, left for two weeks (school, I live with my mom), and by the time I came back the computer had crashed and the file gone. D:
My new ravesona, Mint, was named because a) it was another herb, b) when I think mint, I think fun, and c) I just love mint. XD  Sage is my more serious side (you use sage in things like dressing, the kind you stuff a turkey with), and Mint is my more fun loving side (Mint and chocolate. 'nough said).
My "Dark" character Maeron'Ea, which means "Bitter Fire" in Gaelic. It (doesn't have a gender) is a dragon, so I don't need to explain why I chose it. My "Light" fursona, Greer, which means "watchful, guardian" in Gaelic, is a white fire phoenix. Simply chosen (after much thought) because I try to follow what I think is right, and I'm 'watchful' of what I do when I can. And those are my very long reasons for choosing the names of my fursonas, and all the thought that went in to it.
I got number 20702. Read the same backwards!

Als- = my first and last initials
-tor = something to make "Als-" work

Strange thing is that "Alstor" is the name of a tractor and a Polish programming company.

Daniel was always my favorite name, and Necros was just a random thing that popped into my head while brainstorming my fursona.

Since I'm a stickler for classic cartoon rules, I knew it had to start with a "D." One day, I was trying to do come up with a few examples, like "Donny" or "David," all of which fit horribly, while doing some homework. Eventually, I got to my English assignment, which was deciding on a topic for our research paper. I had chosen Rainer Maria Rilke, who became my favorite writer, and eventually discovered his best work, the "Duino Elegies." It's a series of the ten best poems ever written, or at least, I think so, and I loved them to pieces. So, liking the way "Duino" sounded and seeing as it fit my only rule, I tried it out and it stuck. The rest is history.
And that's why they call me Duino Duck- Drake of Daring, Mandarin of Magnificence, Water Fowl of West Seattle!

Music is obviously a large part of my life. So is the furry fandom. The song "Schism" by Tool was the song that got me into progressive music, which is really a huge part of my life.

When I joined the fandom, I wanted to honor that! At first, it was just an internet handle. But, I kinda thought up a deeper meaning. "Schism" means split. So, it's like my fursona is a split of my life. /fail

Call me a nerd, but I think I got my 'sona's name from Star Wars. Not directly though, I mean I didn't have Star Wars in mind as I was thinking up the name, I just first heard it from the movie(s). After I heard it, I loved the name, it was simple yet elegant, plus it's easy to spell (apart from my RL name).

I got my fursona's name will studying ancient Greece in school. We each had to choose a person to study, and I chose Zeuxis. I liked the name, so it stuck with me. I shortened it to Zeux though, because Zeuxis seemed too long.

Alnix originated from my head, and sounding out sounds until something sounds cool. I made it up about a year ago as an account name on DA, and I liked it, so it stuck. Basically, it just sounds cool. 8)
