This is out of curiosity, do you let professional critics help you decide what decisions you are going to make? Movie critics often influence me into films I want to see, but I don't really rely on video game reviewers because I usually just get the demo before buying a game and judge based on that.

Absolutely. I'm OCD about spending money on something I don't like. I sometimes use game demos, when I'm reaaally considering a game.

Sometimes (especially when it comes to buying drum gear) I rely just on user ratings, because that's a really great source.

If a move gets a good review I will see it. I always wait for a critics to review a movie.
For a game I rent games before I buy them and sometimes I will wait for  critics to review games.
By the way games reviewer don't review demos they get a review copy of a game it's a full game they just get it first before it gets sent your video game store so they review everything about it.
All you base are belong to Wolf.
it's in the fine print.

I never said that they did. I said I do that before I go out and buy a game.

I usually make my own decision by watching trailers and gameplay videos for games. I still read reviews, but they don't influence my opinion much. I never play demos though.

I don't watch many movies though, and when I do, I don't read reviews first.

Usually, I don't care at all. If friends say something is good, I'd be more willing to try it out than if someone I don't know says it's good.

And on the other hand, if a lot of critics say it's bad, then I'll usually want to go just to say I did. xD

I'm with Schism on the whole money thing, I'm such a miser. I think that reviews have a partial affect on me, like I was psyched for the new Medal of Honor game but then everyone on the BC2 forum that played the beta said that it stunk.

At then, I was a little off about buying it, but then Dice announced that they were going to give the new Battlefield 3 Beta to people who buy Limited Edition of MOH. So I looked at some game play myself, and I'm thinking I

I usually dont care much for what critics say to games, unless they say it is a very HORRIBLE game.

I have never really listened to what the critics say about movies or games or anything like that, I just find out for myself. Really all there is to it for me.

Agreed with the poster above. Honestly, just because the critic might not like it doesn't mean I won't like it. People were telling me Avatar (with the blue people) was a horrible movie but I said whatever and went to go watch it. Ended up liking the movie because of the beautiful graphics.

Gotta test it out myself yo.

I don't really care what critics say. I think the only time I ever looked for a review was when I went to watch paranormal activity at a friends house. The review said it was good, it wasn't. To be honest I go and see films/buy videogames because I like the look of them, not because of what everyone else says.

I try not to let people influence me on what I buy. So I never listen to Critics or IGN.

I am not really one for critic's opinion.

If I see something that I think I will like, I will go there/see it. If I don't think I will like it, I don't go.

Critic's share their view of something, but it is not always my view.

Movie reviews usually affect me next to nothing at all. Movies to me are something that everyone has a different taste in, and when I do go to see a movie (rare occasion)  i often pay no attention to reviews.

Video games I sometimes pay attention to reviews.  Mainly because I like a game that can present a challenge, but even then, just as movies people have different things they like.  In the end the only way to really tell if you like it is to see/play it yourself.

For me, it depends. I don't listen to movie reviewers very much, since they and I have an ongoing streak of having very different taste in movies. Unless the review is particularly praising or scathing, I write it off and either go see it myself or ask friends who have seen it what they thought. I'm also a person who enjoys almost every movie I see, so the harsher critics almost never agree with what I think.

For games, it's different. I never buy games off the shelf when they come out, so reviews in magazines don't help me in the slightest. All the games I buy are for the Playstation 2 and came out in 2006. I like to play them for a while myself, get a feel for all the elements and gameplay, and rate it myself from 1-10. Then at some point look up an online review of the game and get another opinion on it, normally after 5-10 hours of gameplay. Most of the time the reviews match up with what I'm thinking, and are handy in telling if it's worth continuing or if I should just stop playing. So video game critics can influence my choice, but only if it's the same as the one I'm leaning toward.
And that's why they call me Duino Duck- Drake of Daring, Mandarin of Magnificence, Water Fowl of West Seattle!

Absolute zero. In fact, if anything, if they give it a good review, I know to stay away from it.
