Posting Guidelines for Art & Literature
« on: August 20, 2004, 03:21:58 am »
1. Files can't be attached to posts, but you may link your images from another site.  Providers specifically set up for this like Imageshack and Photobucket work best.  Do NOT embed images hosted on FurAffinity, they will not be visible to anyone but yourself.  Images hosted on DeviantArt are fine.
Also, a reminder that Tinypic is blocked here.

2. Don't post anything you didn't create unless you have permission from the creator to do so. Please credit all works of art not by you.

3. If a piece of writing takes up more than two pages, or if an image is larger than 800x600 pixels, please link to an offsite location, rather than embedding the image/including the full text in your post. Thumbnail images and partial articles are fine, as long as the full work is linked in your post.

4. Please keep new threads to a minimum. You may start a new thread as necessary (to separate art from writing, to take requests, etc.) but do not start a new thread for each work you post.

5. Threads asking for free art are not permitted. Please direct all requests to the Art Request sticky. Threads asking for commissions (paying for art), and OFFERING free art are permitted.

6. No NSFW work is allowed. All works must still fall within PG-13 guidelines. Questionable/triggering content (such as heavy gore or violence) must be posted as a link alongside a warning.

Natasha, can we use separate threads for separate chapters if our story is too long? I'm not sure how long my story I'm writing will be, but i have a chapter done already.

We'd rather you keep everything together in one thread, but if it's that long, you might want to stick to posting it elsewhere, and just post a link here with an excerpt; enough to introduce it and grab attention, but not too long to read.  Forum threads aren't well-suited for literature anyway.

Furaffinity, SoFurry, Weasyl all offer literature to be uploaded. I would say SoFurry does it better but I haven't really used Weasyl enough to know how well it's has been executed.

Not to mention you can post more of it with a more accepting demographic.

If I understand correctly, we make an individual thread for each piece of art? A new post for each drawing or story?

No, its a thread for all of your art and a post for each piece

That's how I've seen other forms do it. Then rule four on the beginning of this post is confusing me? *shrug*

By each individual work the rule is referring to having a different thread for your art, photography writing etc. is preferred. It's definitely highly preffered to make only one thread for all your art as opposed to making individual threads (as those would clutter the board). Youre of course allowed to make a new thread if you choose in the future if your old one is getting long etc. Sorry for the confusion!

No problem! Thanks for the explanation. Just to make sure I understand correctly, I would make one thread for my drawings and then post all drawing there, while having a separate thread for short stories?

Thanks for pointing that out! I believe it used to be a new thread for each individual piece, as you understood it. But we're bigger now so that doesn't really work  :fox-:P:

You need to upload the pieces to a photohosting site such as imgur or photobucket and post the links they generate for forums into your post. Or you can take the link for the image from another site you've uploaded it to and post (img)link here(/img) but with square brackets. Not all links will work though, Furaffinity and tinypic don't work for example so just watch out for that. Hope this helped c:

ETA: this thread has a pretty good description of how to post pics with images

Can I mention blood and bleeding to death in a story? No illustrations. Just talking about loss of blood. Like someone threw a knife and it cut through both of someone's carotid arteries. The person injured fell and died.

That's fine, but it would be nice if you put a warning at the beginning of the story about it.
