DnB (Spor especially)
« on: September 20, 2010, 05:35:58 pm »
Anyone listen to Spor? Shamefully, with my love of of Drum and Bass, I only found out about them recently.
I've listened to The Stompbox Remix, 1UP, Hyrda and Ignition and they were freakin' AWESOME.

So perhaps any other fans could reccomend some good Spor songs?
And, dual purpose thread, if you too enjoy Drum and Bass, try listening to some Spor!

Into this wild abyss,
The womb of nature and perhaps her grave, Of neither sea, nor shore, nor fire,
But all these in their pregnant causes mixed Confusedly, and which thus must ever fight,
Unless the almighty maker them ordain His dark materials to create more worlds,
Into this wild abyss the wary fiend Stood on the brink of hell and looked awhile,
Pondering his voyage...

On the original topic: Spor is pretty good, although I mostly know them from their work on the Spor remix of Stompbox, so not a lot. Still, I've heard snippets of their work here and there, and it's great to say the least. I know there were others, but the only track by them that I can recall at the moment is "Molehill." The cuts were deep and the tempo was chilling, so I'm always happy to see more of these guys.

 Molehill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ifpqG7ivkQ

But, so I live up to my self-imposed title of "DnB Fanatic," and to expand on the topic just a tad, a few more (not-so-quick) DnB recommendations:

The Qemists who wrote the original song are also pretty awesome DnB artists. They're pretty loose and use the minimalist lyric approach really well in most cases, keeping the words to less than ten but still having poetry in it all. And when they do toss in lyrics, well... it gets pretty awesome. Some of my favorites by them are as follows:

Let There Be Light: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw-eWanrOR8
Iron Shirt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nMSz2L1x2Vw
On the Run: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zpmLVcbBhJ8

Dark Sun Empire is some real choice stuff, too. It's a lot more trance and techno-y, but great to groove to. I've only gotten in to them recently, but there hasn't been a sour note so far, so it's a mine well worth digging. Plus, if it were legal I'd marry the baseline on "Arrakis." Mm, so tasty.

 Breach: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BE6wt300Vfw
 Arrakis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlLqfQ88Agw

Sub Focus is a lot like BSE in the respect that it's a little cleaner and simpler, but they have shorter songs and a bit more personality to each one. There's a plethora of moods you could be in to listen to this guy's stuff, and you'd have a perfect fit every time.

 Follow the Light: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbARZzdsNaI
 Flamenco: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CXJp44YnrU
 Timewarp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN5wo-NYLwU

And, of course, the best for last; the mother of all DnB music. The bastard child of rock and techno... the one, the only (topic of every post I've ever made in the music forum)- PENDULUM. Everything- yes, EVERYTHING- they write is awesome in it's own regard. Their range is incredible, and the appeal universal. A few good points to start from would be these:

Blood Sugar: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryTOjUJz1PM
Hold Your Colour: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfFnU0FUGno
Witchcraft: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogMNV33AhCY

If you like this, click around- there's too many songs for me to post that I like.  I've posted about them many a time, and you know what, I'm going to keep doing it. More people need to know about these guys. If In Flames can get a CD section at FYE, then by God, they better. I know this thread was supposed to focus on Spor's DnB, but I can't resist myself- there are too many good things about this genre to focus on just one person.
And that's why they call me Duino Duck- Drake of Daring, Mandarin of Magnificence, Water Fowl of West Seattle!

I'm going to have to high five you for being awesome here.
But so I don't come across as knowing nothing about DnB, I've heard of all these, bands, though, like you with spor, only listened to snippets of BSE and Sub Focus.
Love the Quemists, haven't heard those three, (I only have Join the Q). And YES, Pendulum is God. I freakin' <3 this band so much. I love rock, I love techno, so everything is just...epic.

But to my main point, anyone else, please now reccomend...any good Drum and Bass songs! We're gonna exapnd up this 'ere topic a little now, thanks to Duino.

Pendulum is ear sex. I said it. It's the truth. Their music makes you feel so good. My friend got me into DnB about a month ago. I am in love with dnb. It's just one of the awesome sub-genres of techno.
